Billionaire Jeff Bezos sent his ego into space, in a rocket shaped like a Dong.
Once he penetrated Space he didn't stick around spooning, as the whole affair lasted 10 minutes. Space has contacted Gloria Allred and is starting a MeToo campaign against Bezos.

he should have remained in space. World was a much better place for 10 mins he was missing.

All of them are going out to space, while bunch of other rich fucks running the global warming scam on us, telling us that we need to disappear from the planet. Such fucksticks.

Lol, let us calculate the CO2 tonnage emitted by Bezos' grand metal dildo.

It was sloppy seconds since Branson already did the vanity project.

Yes, but Branson's altitude was about 10 miles shy of the 62 miles commonly recognized as space. Sorta like Branson got to third base with the girl while Bezos went all the way.

In either case neither "went to the stars" as the news shows proclaim, more like both went on a glorified carnival ride.

It's probably quite staggering when you think about all the materials and how they were made. The employees coming and going to work on building materials and the rocket itself burning gas in cars going to and from work. And finally, the massive amount of fuel burned on the rocket itself.

Wouldn't be shocked if it was the equivalent of 10,000 people's annual CO2 output. Probably more. Is Bezos even a climate junkie anyway? He's probably the top polluter on the planet as an individual from Amazon alone. Between the trucks and server warehouses using massive electricity it's a shit ton. At least in America.

Beyond 50 miles up is considered "space". It's also called the Armstrong limit.

This is all stupid in my opinion. No new science, complete vanity project, useless. Wake me up when one of these rich assholes attains orbit, or - more hopefully - blows up.

I disagree.

I don't see any use, whatsoever, to the ISS. I think that's a complete waste of money, and why point is there to making a rocket that reaches orbit? Who the fuck cares, we did that 5 decades ago. What research has come out of the ISS?

Now the CURRENT space programs to Mars, and Titan, as well as Venus - THOSE I see value in - but there's no point in sending humanity to another planet. None. Manned space exploration is a complete waste of money. Even if we built a city on say, Mars, it would be like living in a prison. The only purpose of existence there, would be to stay alive. Repair the dome, prevent air pressure leaks, grow food - that would be the entire life of colonists. Life would be no different on a O'Neill cylinder.

Pick the nicest, largest, building you can think of and fill it with as many people you like. Nobody can ever leave that building - how long before you go mad?

Reason I bailed on city and suburban living. It's why places like CO, MT, ID, UT and NV are going gang busters with population growth. Ain't chicks pumping out babies. People from blue states running. Those that left 5 years ago are now bitching about the newbies coming in.

Move to a rural a place as is feasible with some form of community and enjoy. 2-5k population tops. There will still be politics locally, but life will be better.

Dude, you need an orgasm of sorts, to make that comparison.

If the sky looks dark and the blue is mostly gone, then you're in space, from an experiential perspective. There's no coitus interruptus there.

I grew up here:

I'd go mad if I lived there now. Everybody is like, "isn't that a quaint, quiet town"? It's isolating. I like living in an area that I can get up, walk for 5 minutes, and pick up a meal. Don't think I could go back to a place where the nearest decent restaurant is 45 minutes away by car.

I spent all summers until I was about 22 in such a place, even more isolated as the nearest house was a mile through forest. I liked it!

What does ISS have to do with anything? Mask is doing re-usable rockets, vertical landing, the kind of thing we used to see only in Sci-Fi.

ISS is blah (and not long for this world anyway).

The only reason to send a human being to low earth orbit is to go to a space station, and human occupied space stations serve no legitimate purpose.

Look, I can see that this is neat:

That's a genuinely intriguing idea of the future, and was envisioned by Wernher von Braun that a space station would be useful to be a half way point between earth and the moon, but what reason do we have to go to the moon at this point? Bragging rights is why we did it in the 1960's. There might be great mineral wealth there, but we don't know yet. Living there would suck, even if it was a very large area you could live in. It is extremely dangerous - living at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station is a challenge. Building that was extremely difficult.

It's cramped, people there often have alcohol problems. Building a base on the moon is 1000 times more difficult, and we don't have an economic reason to do it yet. We are jumping the gun.

There is no financial reason to go to low earth orbit and there never will be, and there's no reason to go further yet. Send something to the moon to drill a core sample, maybe there will be - but we've not even bothered to do it. We haven't done preliminary testing. We are at least a CENTURY away from having any reason to go to the moon, and it's quite possible, there's no reason to go there. Sending machines there? Fine, sending men there? No reason, not yet. There's a 2 second delay in radio communication to the moon, that's a short enough delay to use robots.

Spend an entire year there.

You have to understand I grew up there. No libraries, had 5 channels (one being PBS) accessible. Nearest neighbor was 1/2 mile away, it was pretty, but that equates to pretty boring. Nice home, good parents, no complaints there, but it was boring. Before the Internet, to call my mother's mother, I had to call long distance. Movie theaters were 45 minutes away. 3 restaurants, grocery store was quite limited.

Our pets loved it, they roamed miles. Dad loved it, prestigious home, he's not much of a "people person", but there's just nothing new to do. Education was limited. I used to go to Watertown 45 miles away to check out a book in a library and I was checking out books on binary mathematics and linear algebra. I like to think and learn, and such an area makes it difficult, it's stiffling. With the Internet today, perhaps I could do OK there, but as a child, it sucked.

And I'm not the only person that felt that way. It was a town when I was a child, today, it's a "hamlet" - no more mayor. Almost everybody works for the military there in some capacity, and you could wander the forest for miles. I'm an EE, but I'm really a code slinger. What kind of jobs are there for me? Governor is the nearest small city - try to find a job posting there.

Yeah and people talk about mining it for minerals, when we still haven't managed to get more than a few pound of Moon samples, back from the moon, and have gotten zero matter back from Mars. If it were at all feasible, we would have crafts that could collect a ton of material and bring it back for analysis and experimenting on Earth. As that would be the most important step to mining anything in space for resources. 80 years on in the space race, and we're still ironing out launching from Earth, and parachuting in the Ocean.
I still don't think anyone is brave enough to land in the Elon Musk The day the earth stood still prop.

If Bezos wanted to do it right, he would have flown with a harem and taken them all in orbit on a pay per view to make back his investment.

What an asshole!

Precisely. Also, I think I'd have a hard time living there. Sure, it's really pretty, in summer, and a bit in winter, but it's just too isolating.

Even up at Lake Bonaparte, which my family has a cabin on, it's very nice, but 9 out of 10 cabins are empty at the height of summer. It's eerily empty. Maybe once I build more contempt for humanity, I can go back. :D

ELON Musk has trolled Jeff Bezos by lending his support to a new range of rocket-themed sex toys modeled on his rival's Blue Origin space craft.
25   Karloff   2021 Jul 22, 7:51pm

I grew up in a rural area. Not as sparse as richwicks' home village, but we had 3 television channels and you couldn't get food delivered from anywhere. The city was only about 30min away by car, so the amenities were in reach. It was by no means "isolated".

Now, I'd love to live in that little hamlet, away from the craziness of populated cities. I know my family couldn't deal with that though. I want to get out of here, but I don't know where to go. I'm in IT, so remote work should be possible with most companies these days.

You’re missing the point of space rock mining. Bringing the material back to Earth is NOT the goal! Usable metals, minerals, water, and carbon that are in space are about 1000 times as valuable as the same material that is on Earth. Why? Because that’s what it costs to get the material up there. Why do you want it up there? To build more space stations and space ships. If you can mine the material you need for construction in space, the delta V needed to move it into earth orbit is much much smaller than what you’d need to launch it into orbit from earth. This means it’s much cheaper to obtain.

And no, the moon isn’t the best source for space material. It has a gravity well. Asteroids are the best bet.

I wonder if Bezos will be able to lecture us all about climate change onboard that beast!

Why does everyone forget "Spaceship One?" That 2004 event where Burt Ruttan, a man famous for homebuilt aircraft, build the first private enterprise ship that flew a man into space.

A major turning point for private spaceflight occurred on June 21, 2004, when SpaceShipOne, the first nongovernmental crewed spacecraft, flew 62.5 miles (100 kilometers) above Earth's surface. In doing so, the vessel crossed a boundary called the Kármán line, the accepted point of entry to space as defined by the International Astronautical Federation. After two more flights in 2004, one on Sept. 29 and another on Oct. 4, the piloted vehicle won the $10 million Ansari X Prize for repeated flights in a privately developed, reusable spacecraft.
https://www.space.com/16769-spaceshipone-first-private-spacecraft.html?source=patrick.net

The guy who flew it was 62 years old, and unlike Bezos, he actually flew above the 62 mile high threshold considered to be space. The chase planes that followed SpaceShip One to its landing were two home build 3/4 scale P-51 replicas.
