I find that my usual language and tone, while normal in the Chicago neighborhood I'm originally from, are not understood the same way by people who are not from the same urban environment.

So I'm going to be making a dedicated effort to use less crude speech about the tragic violation of human rights being imposed by the Biden administration.

Not going to change my principles, just trying to reach a wider audience, to drive the snakes out of government.

Even the World Health Organization knew it was serving up a steaming pile of bat guano in March when it released that "investigation" into the origins of Sars-Cov-2.

Berenson writes like I'm used to writing. I would put it the same way normally, but will try to overcome that urge.

Lots of us aren't at all certain it exists.

I certainly hope there's an afterlife, but I have no faith there is. I know quite a few people that deserve it, and a lot of dogs that deserve it too.

If there's an afterlife, my dogs better fucking be there, or there better be a goddamned good reason they aren't, or there will be hell to pay.

They were better creatures than I am, better than any person I've know or have known. Best creatures ever.
8   Shaman   2021 Sep 12, 8:01pm

“Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying: “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!””
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭5:13‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Take that as you will. Interpretation is tricky. But it seems to say that the creatures will be a part of the final act as well.

I don't know from what, but certainly a gift. They are exceptional creatures. I don't think I can bring a dog through a full life cycle again, but I think I can foster again. It was very rewarding.

A Dutch scientist has uncovered old recordings of a musk duck mimicking the phrase, “You bloody fool!”

I think the duck really said "Have you got any grape?"

He just needs to go to confession and do his penance...6 Hail Marys and 6 Our fathers.

Must have been a mean priest. I only had to do four. I heard if you gave him elaborate scenarios of your masturbation fantasies, you only got two.

No, but it's kind of disgusting for everyone to put their fingers in the same water.

Holy water helped spread disease in the Dark Ages.

Also, I was raised Catholic, confession is absolutely degrading and it's basically a way for the Church to gather blackmail material on noteworthy people. It's the same way the Church of Scientology keeps members in their group - they basically do the same thing, but now we have modern recording technology and they use it with a crude lie detector.

Lies can be more accurately detected with voice stress analyzers and with microexpressions driven by AI.

They found that 86 percent of water samples from holy sources contain fecal matter, and every milliliter of holy water contained up to 62 million bacteria, none of it safe to drink.

Old ladies at one of my churches would rinse their dentures in the holy water to have holy clackers. After that, I only pretended to put my fingers in.

With regard to what Patrick said

I'm from NY, upstate NY, but NY just the same.

I don't see any difference from you since this announcement and your current postings. I'd tone down my BS, if I could see it.

One thing I have learned is to greatly reduce my sarcasm. When I (rarely) use it, I am very explicit to be overly sarcastic and not to be subtle at all. That's one thing I actually appreciate about Commiefornia, is people hate sarcasm here, especially subtle sarcasm. I hate it now too, it's just screwing with people when you are subtle about it, because you know, Poe's Law, you cannot differentiate between a nutcase and somebody pretending to be a nutcase, expecting them to realize you're only pretending.

I'm an incredible asshole still, but you never knew me when I lived in Boston. Glad that previous version of me is more or less dead.

28   GreaterNYCDude   2021 Sep 18, 6:44am

Ah confession... perhaps the least understood of all the Catholic Sacraments. I don't mind going (though I don't go as often as I should). It's not about the priest its about you and Jesus. The priest is just the intermediary. It has its roots in Jesus instructions when commissioning his apostles. ("Whosoever sins you forgive are forgiven, whosever sins you retain are retained.")

I'm not going to sit here and spew Catholic dogma. Irrespective of your religous view it's pretty simple. Treat others with respect. Do that at the rest falls into place. But when we mess up, and we all do, it's how we deal with it that shoes our true character.

The old AA adage is that the first step is admiting you have a problem. Sitting there acknowledging your sins to another person can be a powerful healing tool if done correctly.

If done incorrectly it's awkward and embarrassing. I understand why many Catholics don't go.

And for the record I've never been a big fan of the communial dish of holy water. Seems unsanitary, but probably harmless.
29   BayArea   2021 Sep 18, 6:51am

Patrick can you explain what the trigger was to make you realize your language and tone may need adjustment?
30   DhammaStep   2021 Sep 18, 6:57am

I understand the sentiment. It took me a very long time to tone down my aggressive city attitude on the internet and in general. It just comes with age and reflection really.

Remember, we're all way more agreeable than we used to be as kids. Doesn't mean we should completely change or hide our personalities for someone else's feelings. That's the kind of attitude that's destroying everything. Unfortunately, there are folks that won't even listen unless you talk to them like Mister Rogers.

There's a balance somewhere. As a culture, we're trapped in the extremes if we play the media's games.

A couple of things. I admire Dr. Malone's reasonable tone. And I can see for myself that people listen for a just a moment longer if the tone is more neutral and factual. And my wife was encouraging me because she is perhaps even more convinced than I am of the extreme harm and unfairness of vaxx mandates after of the death of her co-worker.

This is a good way to put it.

The oligarchy/media wants us to fight so that we don't look upward at who is pulling the strings.

You know, if they would carbonate it, that would be a bit better imho, and kind of fun.
34   Ceffer   2021 Sep 18, 8:06am

Prankster kids would drop dry ice in the holy water and freak church goers out. When I was an altar boy, one of the others ate unconsecrated hosts. The priest came in and caught him and broke a big church candle over his head in front of us.

When I was an altar boy, the priest was an alcoholic. I guess they eventually sent him to some kind of priest rehab. During mass, he would guzzle the wine right in front of everybody, taking swigs out of the bottle even. It was pretty funny, he'd do it every time, and we would laugh. That church wine always smelled and tasted pretty foul to me (yeah, the altar boys would do that, too).

Where/what is "BA"?

People from Boston are super rude. Trying to be polite or kind is met with derision. If, for example, you turn on your blinker light, somebody will block you just to be a dick. Worst city in the world. The rest of New England calls them Massaholes.

I think that's pretty common. They don't have many outlets for enjoyment.

I've noticed that priests also tend to smoke.
