Developers bribe CCP guys and get suckers to prepay $400,000+ for a condo.
Many are never completed, or are in ghost cities.

In a nutshell, China is fucked up.
Wonder why people buy apartments for no reason in China?
One reason is that you are identified by the “home registration” , so hundreds of millions of people who are from rural areas are identified as second class citizens who have no privileges or access to social services like a resident although they may live and work in the city.
This system started with Mao, and persisted until 2019.
People hope to buy their way to a better “home registration”
600 million Chinese live on $145/month or less.
CCP officials and relatives are 86% of the people who have $100 million or more.
Most CCP officials have sent relatives to live in the West so they can someday make their escape.
Etc etc.
I always knew that the Chinese success and “Confucian values” stuff was bullshit.
