As my wife gets more conservative by the day, she’s now said she is ok with Texas hill country of all places. The small town feel but nearby big city ammenities seem to grasp at her. Some of those small towns outside of San Antonio are among the most conservative places in the nation. It’s fine by me.

I really don’t think so…at least not in the red states. Rather I think families will continue to move to less expensive areas with one working parent and home schooling increasing. Pre 2010 cars can be worked on with only some training. Necessity will force people to work on their own cars and I can see even a cottage industry of older parts being fabricated.

Yes, just like the Model A clubs have 20,000 of those old Fords still on the roads. But there will not be any gas to put in the tanks, so ICE cars will be limited to collectors and not in general use. Doubtful that people will make their own alcohol to use as fuel. Greenies should like alcohol though, since making alcohol takes as much CO2 out of the air as burning that alcohol puts back in.

This is how government defines "incentivizing". It's actually just punishment of what they don't want.

We need people in charge who understand what real incentives are. Take my situation for example. My driving is divided probably 80/20 between have-to/like-to. Going grocery shopping, down to some government building to sign papers, or to work are the have-tos. Driving to a friend's place or out to the country is a like-to.

Find a way to get me what I need without having to drive, and you eliminate 80% of my driving. Environment is better off, I'm better off. I haven't lost any freedoms, saved money, and I'm happy. This is a win for everyone. Well, everyone except for sick authoritarians who get off on abusing other people, I suppose.

It's easy to make alcohol. What's hard, is turning that into everclear.

It's not ANYWHERE near cost effective to do either. First you make the alcohol then you need to distill it multiple times. Distilling is dangerous unless you know what you are doing.

I suspect revolution is in our near future. Too many people are going to be driven into poverty until they get to the "Fuck it!" stage.

Marble Falls, San Saba, Comfort, Schulenburg, New Braunfalls, Kerrville, etc. The Hill Country is the most beautiful part of Texas.

Actually, distilling hooch is quite legal, just like making your own beer and wine. But we are talking about fuel alcohol.

First of all, just like with hooch, you need to have something to distill. That means having a vat of mash fermenting for days. Then you heat it at exactly 80 degrees Celsius and catch the vapor in condenser tubing. The goal is to get a mixture of 80% alcohol and 20% water. Alcohol does not have the energy of gasoline, but that can be made up by increasing the car engine compression ratio. Alcohol fuel can work without knocking even at 15:1. To make the mash, you need lots of corn/grain, or whey. So, after all that trouble, you got 5 gallons of fuel grade alcohol. How far are you going to go?

But poor people aren't moving to the far out suburbs and driving in to an inner city job. Middle/Upper class people can afford high gas prices. It's also temporary when the gas prices get high. Biden will not be a two term POTUS. I'd bet my life savings on that. Gas prices will come back down for those that care, I don't. Armada and Sequoia are our daily drivers and we live in the country. 25 minutes to any major retailer.

Reality is most white collar jobs are now remote. My buddy lives in Montana and works for an IL company. I'd get as rural as you can with decent internet and some big box stores within 30-40 minutes one way. Get some acreage. Grow your own produce. Cost of living will be cheaper by a long shot, so gas isn't a consideration really. Could be $10/gal and we wouldn't even think about it where I'm at. 3 kids. 3-4 sports per kid annually. 2-4 other activities non-sports related. We spend about $500/mo on gas. Oh well. The same sized house in a legit suburb would cost me well over $400 more per month, plus we'd still spend $100-200 on gas.

I've hyper analyzed moving to different states and even in state. The math never works out. We got lucky on our purchase and would be stupid to move. If my wife gets ownership in her company, that's a different story. That would be a $10M+ windfall, so keeping up with the Jones' would be fine by me if we got to that point.
