Whether I like or dislike a particular president, it's a slippery slope to judge their presidency by the type and number of symbolic acts that are really just optics but do fuck-all for the situation itself. In most cases, a costly entourage and security detail rolling into town for a brief social call is frankly just going to get IN THE WAY.
