Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk has come out against COVID-19 vaccine mandates and said he believes that such policies should not be put in place in the United States.

In an interview with Time magazine, which named Musk Time’s 2021 Person of the Year on Monday, the billionaire confirmed that he has been vaccinated himself. ...

However, the businessman said that he was against strict mandatory COVID-19 vaccine policies, particularly when they leave employees having to choose between getting the shots or losing their job.

“But by the same token I am against forcing people to be vaccinated,” Musk said. “You know, I think this is just not something we should do in America. I think we should encourage people to be vaccinated, strongly try to convince them to be vaccinated, but not force them to be vaccinated, or for example, for them to get vaccinated or get fired.”

Musk’s comments come at a time when vaccine mandates are being challenged across the U.S. at both state and federal levels.

In early November President Biden issued new rules, enforced by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, regarding COVID-19 vaccinations and testing for employers.

The rules are scheduled to take effect on Jan. 4 and dictate that employers with 100 or more employees ensure each of their workers is fully vaccinated or that they test for COVID-19 on at least a weekly basis. All unvaccinated workers must also wear a face mask in the workplace.

Health care employees working at facilities participating in Medicare and Medicaid, including hospitals and long-term care facilities, must also be fully vaccinated, which is set to affect more than 17 million workers.

In response, multiple lawsuits have been piling up against the administration over what some have called “government overreach.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 72.1 percent of adults in the United States are fully vaccinated, or just under 61 percent of the total population, while 72.2 percent of the total population has received at least one shot.

Meanwhile, some health officials have been urging the public to double down on safety precautions, including getting vaccinated, in light of the emergence of the latest Omicron variant. ...

So far only one person in the entire world has reportedly died after contracting the Omicron variant. It remains unclear if the deceased individual—who died in Britain—had any underlying health issues.

Federal health officials and authorities in other countries have signaled that early data suggests Omicron is a milder variant than the Delta strain.

It’s a good call for Time Magazine: it made Elon Musk the person of the year. It’s actually even a remarkable call, and a great omen. Musk is arguably the most prominent opponent of lockdowns and vaccine mandates in the US. In his official interview, he refused to take back his last-year denunciation of stay-at-home orders as “fascist.”

Who cares. He got vaccinated. Sorry, but by default you support getting vaccinated regardless of what you say. He has financial motivation owning companies with 100 plus people. He knows he's going to lose talent. I have no issue with Musk, but he's not helping the situation. Jobs are important to people financially, but this has never been about money for me. It's about health. Our government STILL has not approved any of the vaccines. Not that I trust them anyway, but this is kind of a non-story since he got vaccinated.

Don't get vaccinated and come out from the word go against a EUA vaccine. Musk didn't do that. The door is closing on mandates unless SCOTUS stops them. He's getting nervous he'll lose hundreds if not thousands of employees.

Good for Musk. He’s right of course.

It’s absurd that Biden and his ilk think that people are hurting others if they don’t take the shot.
They want to trample on our rights for no reason except frustration that people have always been skeptical of vaccines.
Do 100% take the flu shot every year although the flu kills a lot of people each year? No, a lot of people don’t want to or care.
Joy Reid is retarded.

There's room for admitting being wrong. Live and learn. There might be an antidote eventually. There are reverse treatments already coming out constantly that are increasingly effective.

Moot point. He didn't think before he acted. There was zero reason for someone his age to get vaccinated. He regrets it. Everyone I know vaccinated regrets it. They don't feel normal. And he also has financial incentive to not have mandates. Him being vaccinated normalized it for his employees. He cannot reverse course. There was nothing to lose by not being vaccinated, he wouldn't die from a covid infection. He fucked up. It happens.

So if he admits he fucked up it's meaningless? That makes no sense. Bill Maher said he does not want a booster. That helped the anti mandate cause. As they keep raising the bar of what fully vaccinated means and ppl refuse to get additional shots they become what we are - not fully vaccinated - and therefore unable to do whatever the covid pass is required to do same as those who never got even 1 shot. Those are ever increasing allies to us that your attitude alienates.

There are also many who's take is, ppl should get to do whatever they want without punishment. The freedom to choose. Just because they chose to take it does not mean they are in favor of blackmailing anyone else to. Those who believe that way are not our enemies. Originally mRNA was created as an experimental treatment for the terminally ill, e.g. cancer. They wouldn't be our enemy in that case either if they chose to go thru with it.

Elon Musk Accuses SEC of Targeting Him Over Criticism of Gov’t
'The SEC's outsized efforts seem calculated to chill his exercise of First Amendment rights... '

I'm sure Musk is right about that.
