If it is the 1880's, and they don't have at least one black computer genius and a couple of flouncing gay buckaroos, they have failed in their diversity duty. Also, the leader of the wagon train needs to be a grouchy amazon lesbian of color.
I have taken a shine to some of the Chinese and Japanese series with subtitles: No diversity crap at all, they can actually tell a story, odd. Korean, everybody is Korean. Chinese, everybody is Chinese. Japanese, everybody is Japanese. Sometimes a white person might be in there as a villain.

Speaking of which, Yellowstone season 4 just ended and is fantastic. Most of the characters are far more flawed than In Longmire, but traditional in their roles.
Two massive redemption arcs came full circle this season (Rip and Jimmie) that are absolutely traditional male characters.
