..."...A modest San Jose house has sold for almost $1 million over its original asking price as real estate prices continue to stay hot in the area. The ranch-style home was listed for $1.875 million in early December and received an offer after just one day on the market. The house eventually sold for $2.85 million.

The three-bedroom, two-bathroom house is 1,296 square feet. It features dual-pane windows, new vinyl tile flooring and updated lighting. It also boasts a spacious backyard; the property sits on a sizable 6,009-square-foot lot, which could easily accommodate expansion or rebuilding.

The property stayed with a single family for an extended period of time, according to the listing; it was originally purchased in 1972 for $30,500. Sheryl Shigemasa and Elise Erwin with Century21 Real Estate Alliance were the listing agents.

The house’s location undoubtedly added to its appeal. It is situated near Apple headquarters, Santana Row, Westfield Valley Fair mall and many other amenities. In fact, the West San Jose area has a median home sale price of $2.025 million — a 19.7 percent increase over the past year, according to Redfin...."...

These folks signed up for about $30k/year in property taxes.

Yes, yes, I know: bait-and-switch style listing/asking about 10% "under market" to launch a bidding war.

Looks like most of the homes on the street are in the 2.5 - 3M range. I guess this is the price range in the saratoga area.

I recall driving through saratoga for the first time about 12-13 years ago on my way to a community college class there. It was a nice spring morning and the area was beautiful.

I later looked at home prices via zillow and thought maybe one day I would move there. Now I look and see the 2-4M range is where things start...wow.

This home comes under cupertino union school district which has a good reputation and reached prop 13 lockups and started declining new enrollment for the past few years. Up until recent past schools were prime factor in RE prices but not anymore. Now everything is driven by tech jobs with tons of options. I feel 3mil is not much for those folks I meet randomly around. There is too much money chasing too few homes.
