As my grandmother used to remind me, "The sun doesn't shine up the same dog's ass everyday".

I'm in agreement with this assessment. Tesla is a complete shit show, but it doesn't matter. The Boring company is complete hopium bullshit. The hyperloop is an ANCIENT idea, more than 200 years old, and that's a total disaster. Musk is the modern day PT. Barnum.

We've had true geniuses within our time. Many will recognize the name Dennis Ritchie and Brian Kernighan but how many know that Ritchie died in October 12, 2011?

These men invented two massive things. They created Unix which is the fundamental operating system that ALL operating systems are based off from (yes, Windows too), and they made the computer language C, which is the most ubiquitous language used to this day. The Internet and entire fields are created around their work, and only nerds like me know who they are.

Everybody knows who PT Barnum is but they only know "This way to the Egress!" and "There's a sucker born every minute". Musk is vastly over-appreciated.
3   Tenpoundbass   2022 May 13, 8:11am

Today it's "There's an idiot born every minute, and two to employ them."

Meaning I find it odd, that so many Idiots are employed.

Clueless:

- Tesla is making industry highest margins per car manufactured (with no EV credits)
- Tesla has unbelievable demand and is sold out for the year - despite spending nothing on advertising and marketing
- Tesla just opened 2 of the largest and most advanced manufacturing facilities on the planet (Austin and Berlin)
- Tesla has virtually no debt
5   Patrick   2022 May 13, 8:31am

6   AmericanKulak   2022 May 13, 8:33am

Reusable Rocket.

Something Griftheed-Farten and Over-Boering said was impossible.
7   Tenpoundbass   2022 May 13, 8:42am

It's very possible that this was just a move to launder 1 billion dollars into election meddling, and lobbying for more State Election officials to sell out.

8   Tenpoundbass   2022 May 13, 8:44am

There's a 1 billion dollar break up fee. Meaning if Elon walks away he leaves 1 billion dollars of his money on the table.
9   socal2   2022 May 13, 8:46am

I bought a few more Tesla shares this week. I plan on hanging on to them for at least 10+ years.

I expect over 50% of the traditional auto OEM's will be out of business within 10 years or will have license deals with Tesla to supply them with their batteries, software and motors.

Tesla is a vehicle that burns coal and natural gas extremely inefficiently which has tax subsidies for it's fuel, and they are trading carbon credits.

Nothing they do, absolutely nothing they do, isn't duplicated by Ford, GM, and Honda. It's hype. It's not green, it's not better, it doesn't reduce pollution, it's not "the future". We go to war to secure Lithium now, just like we go to war for oil.

Seeing a scam years in advance, it's not helpful monetarily. Investment is the art of understanding the madness of crowds, it's ALL speculation now, unsustainable.

I worked in this industry. There's nothing to license from Tesla. There's no technology behind it. Their huge thing was autopilot, and that's just a trained AI and they stupidly depended entirely on visual data within our own visual limits. Google uses lidar and they had the problem licked 10 years ago. Lidar is far, FAR superior to our own vision system. It uses doppler effects to map the exact terrain. A machine is far superior to any animal on Earth for visualization.

Tesla is nothing more than virtue signalling bullshit.

If you want to reduce energy consumption, cars should be limited to be about 500 lbs or below. We can do this, and we have, but when an H2 hits this vehicle, the occupants are dead. It's ridiculous we allow these tanks on the road, but we do. 99% of the energy of the car is expended on moving all that metal around, for no purpose.

Seriously man? Tesla has never, EVER turned a profit. Strip away all their green government subsidies, and they are broke, and highly indebted. Or do you consider government welfare legitimate profit?

Not true.

Tesla been turning major profits WITHOUT credits for over a year now and their Orders and Sales numbers are on an exponential growth curve trajectory now with the new factories coming on line. Every car manufacturer was given the same EV subsidies that Tesla got.

https://www.theverge.com/2022/4/20/23031976/tesla-q1-earnings-profit-elon-musk?source=patrick.net
https://www.theverge.com/2021/7/26/22594778/tesla-q2-2021-earnings-revenue-profit-credits-emissions-bitcoin?source=patrick.net

Despite building 2 new factories, Tesla has virtually no debt or legacy Pension liabilities that all of the other OEM's are saddled with.

Tesla can build their cars in under 10 hours using their new gigapress technology while Volkswagen takes 30+ hours.
15   Ceffer   2022 May 13, 10:50am

The Woo claims Musk is another dynastic kid elevated to be the face of an underlying shadow industrial edifice, pretty much like Gates and ZuckFuck. Werner von Braun's child, perhaps? Nazis need some cheerleader for their tech accomplishments since WWII ratlining?

Whether he thinks the Globalistas have overplayed their hand and has negotiated a white hat settlement is the question.
16   Tenpoundbass   2022 May 13, 11:50am

Also another reason he could be walking away leaving a billion dollars on the table for now. So he can come back after he destroys the value of Twitter to 20 million from 40 billion.
Not so cheap another rich do-gooder would want it, but cheap enough to save him 10 billion dollars.
17   Hircus   2022 May 13, 1:20pm

He might be strategizing. He knows the tech crash is upon us, and might feel he can use the "unexpected" number of bots to argue that his prior bid was too high.

Losing 1B to renegotiate is chump change compared to maybe saving 10-20% of 45B or w/e he bid.

19   DooDahMan   2022 May 13, 1:37pm

Elon Musk can tweet anything he likes, because he’s Elon Musk, and he’s buying Twitter, and free speech is awesome. What he can’t do is make false tweets true.

Keep in mind that Musk is a lying liar who lies, a documented serial hyperbolist, a free-wheeling fabulist and also a person who says things that are not true, routinely.

So let’s answer a few questions you might have:

Can Musk put the Twitter deal on hold?

Can Musk say things like this without getting in trouble with the SEC or Twitter?

Did Musk disparage Twitter?

Is Musk trying to get out of the deal?

Is Musk going to get in trouble for this tweet?

The parties that might take action are Twitter investors, particularly those who sold their shares on the basis of his “on hold” statement. If the stock rebounds, they might argue that Musk caused them to take a loss based on misleading information.

The problem with that is that Musk could argue, as he did in his 2019 “pedo guy” defamation trial, that he’s just an “idiot,” and that any sensible investor would understand that he was bound by his agreement with Twitter and couldn’t actually put the deal on hold. It’s kind of like when he asked Twitter users to vote on whether he should sell some of his Tesla stake when he had actually planned the sale months before.

You can’t ignore what Musk says, but you don’t have to believe it either.

Trump cracks me up:

Did Trump contemplate a buy out of Twitter already and figured out it was a bad deal?
21   clambo   2022 May 13, 1:56pm

I don’t think Tesla is so great.
Nobody’s moving to Mars.
Tunnels aren’t new.
Twitter is a waste of money.

But, I think the reusable rocket is interesting as is satellite internet service.

Musk is a government contractor like Lockheed and Boring. They can get rich.

I must check out Truth social sometime.
22   Ceffer   2022 May 13, 1:58pm

So, Elon's stalled bid (he wants now to check the five percent fake account claims of the Tweet Lords before investing) mean the whole venture was a controlled opposition head fake?

Five percent? Maybe intel agency propaganda bot claques amounting to 50 percent would be more like it.

I agree with most of your takes Rich, but this is patently false. I need/have to tow stuff. That's not happening with a 500lbs car.

I also give no shits about the environment. There's no obvious change I've observed in my 39 years of life. Barrier islands in the Panhandle of FL have had no visible change in land mass since I've been alive. We're talking glorified sand bars and they haven't changed.

I agree that EV's pollute just as much. The only thing they're good for is reduced noise pollution and a feel good for people that think they're doing the right thing. 500 lbs cars though are not going to be a thing. I'll buy a horse before that.

Falcon makes money and costs a fraction of Legacy Griftheed-Fartin rockets. Even rock-bottom priced Soyuz can't compete, nor Ariane with the EUsubsidies.

Starlink is already online and is putting several legacy satellite providers into bankruptcy. Hughes for one. I'm sure other deeply US Taxpayer subsidized Ace Tomato Company /distant rural agra whinger facilitators.

Next up will be the 4/5G scams where you only get 100Gb/month for $50+ from DeutscheTelekom ("T-Mobile") and AT&T.

Well, you're an exception.

I don't have a problem with that, I'm pointing out that the VAST majority of vehicles are extremely wasteful.

WookieMan says

I think you want to rephrase that. I think you mean you DO give a shit about the environment, but you don't believe the propaganda about it - neither do I. Plastic in the woods doesn't sit there for 1000 years. An oil slick in a lake doesn't stay there forever. We're not causing a global climate catastrophe. I agree.

WookieMan says

It's inevitable. It won't be any worse or more dangerous than a vehicle of today. It just doesn't make sense to drive around a 3,000 lb car to get to and from work. You're not going to be hauling sod around with it, but most people don't have to ever do that.

The problem is the real money in Tesla has already been made. pre split adjusted when it was about $30 share. Although buying in October 2013 and selling in may 2019 would have net you zero profit. It shows how unlucky or lucky you can be in the market. When they were actually able to mass produce model 3s at a significant level people realized this stock was a viable company.

It also helps to not really update your cars style often… and sell it with pretty bare with a giant touchscreen. Allows margins to be pretty good and easy to mass produce.

I’m personally getting bored of seeing white Tesla model 3s. They are everywhere in CA. For Tesla to be successful the roads will be a sea of white bubbles.

Stupidity and gullible are rewarded.

Why do people still use Twitter? They KNOW it's promoting propaganda, they KNOW it's filled with bots, they KNOW that there's political censorship.

But people still use it. They BEG them to stop the censorship. There's alternatives, but they won't seek them out.

Midwits are in control.

I miss the 1990's. Such a company would have been abandoned and burned to the ground in a few months.

One good thing about the underground, is less midwits. There's a few here, but it's not as agonizing as major sites.

Absolutely not true. The vision problem is what is keeping advanced robotics from exploding onto the scene.

LIDAR can not discern between a mannequin propped up on the edge of the sidewalk or a real person about to step out into the street.

Visualization is not just about the data gathering. It is about discerning WTF the data is really telling you or not.
