Hawaii Senate Dem Majority Leader Gets 3 Years in Prison for Bribery

Former Senate Majority Leader J. Kalani English, 55, pleaded guilty to honest services wire fraud in February, admitting he accepted bribes from a Hawaii business owner in exchange for shaping legislation that would benefit a company involved in publicly financed cesspool conversion projects...

English “peddled the power and influence of his position as a Hawaii State Senator and Majority Leader to enrich himself and betray the trust bestowed upon him by those he was elected to serve,” U.S. prosecutors said in a sentencing memo urging the judge to send him to prison for three-and-a-half years.

The sentence, a little more than three years, must send a “stern and lasting message” that corruption of elected officials will be punished, the memo said. ...

Choy is a prolific donor, as are his immediate family members and business associates. Choy, his family members, and his employees from various companies have donated more than $356,000 to political campaigns since 2014, according to campaign finance data. Of that, Choy has contributed more than $160,000 to the elections and reelections of numerous Democrats.

Choy himself has donated to 55 campaigns — including 29 sitting lawmakers — since 2014. Money has gone to former Gov. Neil Abercrombie and current Gov. David Ige. He has most recently contributed to former Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell’s campaign for governor, and to Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi’s campaign.

"Stern and lasting message" my ass. Only life in prison will do. Singapore is a much better country than the US in this way.

Pelosi is the easy one: insider trading.

The State Department is looking to buy $400 million worth of vehicles from Elon Musk's EV company, Tesla.
The department's procurement forecast for 2025 listed a five-year contract with Tesla. The order would see the department purchasing "Armored Tesla (Production Units)" from Musk's company for $400 million.
The department's forecast did not specify the vehicle model that will be bought. Tesla produces several EVs, including sedans like the Model 3 and Model S, and SUVs like the Model Y and Model X.
The use of the term "Armored Tesla" in the forecast could be a reference to Tesla's Cybertruck, a stainless steel pickup truck that Musk said is bulletproof. The proposed contract has an "anticipated award date" of September 30.
The contract with Tesla is the largest budget item listed in the department's forecast. The forecast also included orders from other automakers, including a $40 million contract for armored BMW SUVs, the X5 and X7.
Representatives for the White House, the State Department, and Tesla did not respond to requests for comment from Business Insider.

Why the fuck State Dept suddenly needs $400M worth of electric pick-ups? How does it mesh with "government efficiency"?

Agreed. Elon really shouldn’t be doing business with the Fed Gov at this point, otherwise this screams of nepotistic like hypocrisy.
467   mell   2025 Feb 12, 9:55pm

Agreed he should focus on limiting H1s instead. And lowering taxes

Gonna be some soiled knickers tonight. Some pundits said there will be suicides. The laundering will come out?

After being exposed they promptly amended the docs to simply say "armored EVs" instead of "armored Tesla EVs". Still, why the fuck buy expensive electric toys when basic white SUV would suffice?

Were they looking for bullet proof vehicles?

Looks like Officers in the various services were stealing funds from the enlisted men. Money that was taken from the enlisted personnel for food was simply directed elsewhere.

Don't expect for a single minute that any Uniformed Officers will be charged with a crime. That simply doesn't happen in the services. Rules and regulations are for the commoners. And no the victims don't get their money back.

From the article: "The money is collected in what amounts to a tax on troops — taken from their BAS payment of $460 per month and automatically deducted from paychecks of service members who live in barracks."

That sounds like a deduction from BAS for those eating in the chow hall. Enlisted who live off base or in family housing still get the full BAS. Also sounds like the deductions were returned to the Army general fund, which seems fair since the chow hall is supported form the general fund and very likely the chow hall costs more to operate than just what is collected from BAS. That article appears disingenuous to me.

Nothing says love and kisses to the new DoD Secretary like an IRS audit from the preceding administration.

Any bets it was from an LGTBQP ????

I don't understand the drama. If he has all i's dotted and t's crossed - what's the problem? His accountant will show his homework and be done with it. It's not like he does his taxes himself, lol.

It can get expensive if the auditor aggressively disallows deductions and creatively determines fraud and the taxpayer has to go to court.

So anybody suspected of tax mistakes, fraud or corruption can cry "persecution" now and be immediately cleared by vote on twatter? The only place to establish truth is the court system. Want it simple and cheap - stick to W-2 and renting.

If it wasn't flagged by the IRS's system, then the IRS agent needs to be shitcanned and prosecuted or are you just saying that the Deep State has complete immunity ???

Not my experience. I still don't understand why everyone freaked out with covid. I took nothing, flew on planes and did what I wanted. While not polite just tell people to get fucked. Mandating vaccines would have been approved by Congress and POTUS. I don't recall that ever happening. Even school age kids can go with ZERO vaccines that most take.

Private companies had no authority to have you take a vaccine nor government. A lot of people freaked out and were ill informed. Having been in RE, you ask a seller if they had AIDS living in the house you'll get sued immediately. Medical records are yours.

If it happens in the future again, just be aggressive. And funny. TSA agent questions you just tell them to eat pony shit. They won't know how to react. Keep walking. I'm taller 9 out of 10 times, So I might have it easier. I'm a complete ass hole when I want to be.

Obama started the IRS persecutions, so I'm sure it's still on the table until the last globohomo holdouts in the IRS are purged.

I think "Tax Fraud" is meaningless in light of what the PRNY judge did to Trump.

It's like "he said, she said" except the federal gub'ment is the "she."

We were not talking about routine audits or having business with complex accounting. We were talking about use of the IRS to hassle political enemies.

Obama Judge Who Blocked Trump’s ICE Raids is Married to Far-Left Open Borders Activist Funded By George Soros

The Obama judge who blocked the Trump administraiton’s ICE raids is the husband of a far-left open borders activist.

On Monday, U.S. District Judge Theodore Chuang ruled in favor of a lawsuit filed by left-wing activists seeking to prohibit ICE from conducting raids in churches where many illegal aliens hide from authorities. ...

Natalie Winters, a co-host of Steve Bannon’s War Room podcast, did some digging and revealed that Chuang’s wife, Jacinta Ma, is the Vice President of National Immigration Forum (NIF), a pro-open borders advocacy group.

The organization promotes policies such as a mass amnesty for illegal aliens and works on putting out propaganda about the supposedly massive contributions made by illegal aliens to the U.S. economy.

The group’s largest donor is the Open Society Foundations, which is funded by the liberal billionaire George Soros.

Ah, delaying approval of generic drugs protects Pfizer profits for high-priced drugs still under patent.

It's especially flagrant corruption to delay approval of generics because they are by definition drugs which have already been approved under a brand name.
