It's cultural and comes from the observation that social scientist Hannah Arendt explained. We live our lives in only two realms, the public where we conduct our daily business and the private where we eat, sleep, eliminate and reproduce. Of course we do eat in public, but it doesn't convey the intimate and secure feeling of dining with one's loved ones in private does. Sadly, some do sleep in public, but that is usually due to some unfortunate malady and doesn't provide rest. Elimination and reproduction are the most private functions of humanity and why the organs connected with those functions are called "privates". A fart is so close to elimination that it is going to make people uncomfortable when forced to confront that function in a public setting. That's also why the countercultural impulses of the late 60's and into the 70's when lots of young people flaunted group nudity by being "natural" or "authentic" were fools themselves because they were flouting a normal cultural taboo.
I've never understood the stigma with farting
In one island nation a guy was considered a stud if he could fart at the same time he ejaculated. In another, if caught farting in public to redeem themself they needed to climb a palm tree; this species has a giant spike growing out the top - then impale themself through their bunghole.
And she celebrated the counterculture and all its components in the late 60's when she was in her late 60's, shacking up, drugs, communes, you name it, thought it was "liberating".

also a doubt there's a tree that exists that has a spike at the top.
Mead went to Samoa and her "research" consisted of a click of young girls telling her complete bullshit that she accepted as absolute fact. Mead was a moron.

"Life Coach". Which I now believe to be a "Paid Sounding Board" to confirm Women's Fantasies and Affirm their Dumb Life Decisions
That asinine movie 'Live, Eat, Pray' characterizes the genre.
Women have pms montly, pain n.mood swing. They hate men for not having to go thru that
Women hate men for lots of reasons. Periods, being smaller and weaker on average, being less aggressive.
Men do have a tendency to be aggressive assholes, but this is also something that women love about men. They feel safer with a guy who may sometimes be an asshole to her, but will also be an asshole for her when she needs protection.
Eat Pray Love author Gilbert(bottom left) ditched her bald, broke Argentine with a Paunch and moved on to an aged Bulldyke as her "Partner":
All boys about the age of 7 or 8 learned that girls have cooties, and girls have harbored resentment about it ever since.
