I am not a boomer and I am not Casey. Can I post 10 things I hate about myself instead?

2   requiem   2006 Oct 6, 6:14am

Casey has not yet been properly defeated. He's still out there collecting ad revenue. The job must be finished!

"Bastard operators don't win...anyone can win...Bastard operators win and totally demoralize...that is REAL winning." - the BOFH

3   Peter P   2006 Oct 6, 6:14am

No Peter. That’s not allowed.

I hate you! :)

4   Claire   2006 Oct 6, 6:17am

I stayed away from his website because I didn't want to generate any revenue for him from his ads - I don't know how that all works. Any highlights someone could post? Has he offloaded any of his houses etc. How much has he lost now?

I hate the fact that he deliberately commited fraud by submitting mortgage applications all at the same time so that they didn't show up. Please can't one of the mortgage holders go after him?

5   Peter P   2006 Oct 6, 6:21am

Casey is just probably someone who wanted to get ahead. He should have been more mindful about potential legal consequences.

He is just one of the many.

I do not hate him.

10. Boomers love slowly driving RVs and SUVs on long and windy roads. astrid hates driving behind slow RVs on long and windy roads.
9. Boomers give a bad name to good unboomers like newsfreak.
8. Boomers book up too much space in good restaurants and golf courses.
7. Boomers always say "I did XYZ, why can't you?"
6. Boomers on medicare, nuff said.
5. Both Bill Clinton and George W. Bush are boomers. (and Hilary Clinton, and Al Sharpton, and Mark Foley...)
4. Boomers think their houses are *worth* 30X what they paid for them.
3. Boomers own too many good vacation properties.
2. Boomers spend too much money and won't leave anything behind to Gen-Xer/Gen-Yers.
1. There are too many boomers.

PS - Peter P, no hating of fellow bloggers or self loathing! If it helps, just type stuff you hate about yourself and then substitute "boomer" or "Casey Serin" for "me" "myself" and "I".

Casey was mentioned in Carol Lloyd's column today and I still have a strange feeling that someone made the whole thing up (not that there are not many others in worse shape not Blogging about it)....

More likely than not.

10   DinOR   2006 Oct 6, 6:31am

I have assembled a "Global Tribunal" and after extensive study we have come to the conclusion that Casey Serin is a B@tch Ass Punk and a Punk Ass B@tch! Don't waste time on his web site, go to MINE!

worldcan'twait for casey.org

11   astrid   2006 Oct 6, 6:36am

DinOR,

I just can't resist Serin's blog. It's like watching a car crash, followed a big explosion, followed by a direct astroid strike, followed by a circus clown riding a tiny circus bike, followed by a fat lady singing, followed...

CASEY SERIN HAIKU:

Who's Casey Serin?
Really, I've never heard of
the little devil.

13   astrid   2006 Oct 6, 6:40am

Claire,

Here's wikipedia's entry on Google ads.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AdSense

I'm guessing that Serin went with payment per thousand views option. He'll need a lot more revenue to bail himself out though.

I’m guessing that Serin went with payment per thousand views option. He’ll need a lot more revenue to bail himself out though.

What if this is just all drama?

15   astrid   2006 Oct 6, 6:46am

Peter P,

If Serin is exposed as a fraud at this point, then I think he deserves lots and lots of kudos. He has the whiney, self-absorbed numbskull Gen-Yer act down pat. If he was just faking, he really should write a reality show about Gen-Yer RE "investor" and sell it to the networks.

16   astrid   2006 Oct 6, 6:47am

"If he was just faking, he really should write a reality show about Gen-Yer RE “investor” and sell it to the networks."

Damn! Did I just come up with an idea that could conceivably bail him out?

17   skibum   2006 Oct 6, 6:50am

OK astrid,

I wouldn't say I hate boomers or any of their particular quirks. But beyond the obvious (60's drug culture, financial irresponsibility, selfishness, McMansions), I do find some of the more frivolous boomer-associated entities funny, sad, pathetic:

1) Paying over $100/pop to watch the Stones totter around on stage
2) Doonesbury - does anyone except boomers actually find that crap funny?
3) Thinking Steve Jobs is cool
4) "Forrest Gump" (actually, that's one thing I do indeed hate)
5) "ThirtySomething" - what a bunch of self-centered whiners!
6) Popularizing the concept of living on a golf course - why?
7) Among all the icons of the Boomer Gen, they never seem to tout Richard Simmons, do they?
8) All those suburban fatsoes riding around in their shiny motorcylces on Skyline every weekend - please, you're DEFINITELY NOT COOL.
9) Related to #8, all those fatsoes on $5000 bicycles riding around Woodside, PV, or PA wearing those ridiculous multi-colored biking shirts with their paunches poking out, thinking they are actually "athletic."
10) Any book whose title starts with "Chicken Soup for..."

Raw anger directed at Big Boomer & Greedy Ass-Clown-of-the-Month (and away from each other)?

Much, much better...

I'm taking bets on the age of the researchers, wanna bet they are 50-60?

20   HARM   2006 Oct 6, 6:55am

Another classic anti-Boomer rant from Mr. X, our VP of Sin. God, I just never get tired of those, no matter how many I read (*sniff*)...

21   astrid   2006 Oct 6, 6:59am

skibum,

Yeah! What is up with the Boomers' worship of the Stones, the Eagles and the Beatles. (I love the Beatles but most of their post-breakup stuff is not very good). Somebody really should put a brown paper bag over Mick Jagger's face.

22   skibum   2006 Oct 6, 7:00am

@HARM,

Funny article, but I thought the linked article at the bottom was even funnier:

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/15144530/

"Be advised, hemorrhoid cream not for the face
Drug maker issues warning against using ointment as a cosmetic"

23   HARM   2006 Oct 6, 7:03am

Harm

I love the first sentence of the article you posted.

“Good news for aging hippies……………..”

Ok, now here's something weird: it wasn't me who posted that MJ article. Going by IP, it was Surfer-X. For some strange reason (maybe because we both tried posting simultaneously), WordPress got our identities mixed up and posted it under my name.

24   surfer-x   2006 Oct 6, 7:04am

HARM, sorry, I used my IM to post the link, usually I use Firefox. Seems that the last one to log in was a Senor HARM, President and CEO of HARM-X Industries, LLC GmbH. I have since logged the President out.

25   HARM   2006 Oct 6, 7:06am

Ahhh... it all makes sense now.

26   FRIFY   2006 Oct 6, 7:16am

This is all from boomers undertaxing themselves now (in their peak earning years) and leaving the interest payments to Gen-X and beyond.

Equivalent degeneracy:

1) Borrow cheap dollars on the house that you think you own and leave it for the next generation to clean up your shit when they discover your Overdosed Body.

2) Borrow cheap dollars on the country that you think you own and leave it to the next generation to clean up your shit and support you old frail a$$ (if you've survived) with SS because you haven't saved a dime.

27   Randy H   2006 Oct 6, 7:28am

My latest advice to Casey on his latest thread, where he is crying about a big mean lender not wanting to settle for 70% of the loan value in a short sale, and instead wanting more like 90%. Note, this is kind of funny because, if the story is to be believed, he's just getting rooked by an "investor" who's going to pocket something like 40% return on the short sale while Casey takes the risk & credit hit and the big mean bank takes it in the shorts.

Not surprisingly, the bank objects.

I revise my prior advice to seek an attorney. You should seek psychiatric treatment.

That disposed of, I have some direct advice to this subject: Go for 50% LTV. Disintermediate your investor and handle the negotiations yourself. Tell the counterparties that you’re only going to give them $150K, and that you’re being generous. That strategy seems in keeping with the spirit of your approach.

28   astrid   2006 Oct 6, 7:31am

I do find a lot of similarity between Serin and the *typical* boomer we usually talk about on this blog. They believe they "deserve" obscene profits for relatively little work because of some innate virtue or "boldness."

29   astrid   2006 Oct 6, 7:33am

Randy,

I really liked you advice to Serin this time around. That kid needs analrapist (sorry, can't help myself to an Arrest Development reference) help and he needs it now.

30   e   2006 Oct 6, 7:38am

3) Thinking Steve Jobs is cool

Uh... not just boomers. There's also a slew of ipod carrying kids that think that.

2) Doonesbury - does anyone except boomers actually find that crap funny?

Well actually, it's not that bad. Better than Garfield these days. Man has Garfield gotten bad. :(

31   astrid   2006 Oct 6, 7:41am

I'm not a Mac person but I do find Pixar to be cool. Does that make me a Jobs sympathizer?

32   FRIFY   2006 Oct 6, 7:48am

2) Doonesbury - does anyone except boomers actually find that crap funny?

Second, but then again, I'm an effete liberal. Doonesbury has been cutting through hypocrisy for longer than I've been around. You've gotta respect that even if you have no ear for satire.

33   skibum   2006 Oct 6, 7:48am

Uh… not just boomers. There’s also a slew of ipod carrying kids that think that.

I doubt most of the ipod-donning kids know who Steve Jobs is.

Well actually, it’s not that bad. Better than Garfield these days. Man has Garfield gotten bad.

Were you one of those people with a Garfield doll suctioned onto your car's rear window? ; )

34   HARM   2006 Oct 6, 7:55am

I really liked you advice to Serin this time around.

Ditto - and RC's post too.

35   Allah   2006 Oct 6, 7:57am

Check out this FB that thinks refinancing into an option ARM is going to free up money so he can pay off other debt. Some people just have no clue!

36   skibum   2006 Oct 6, 7:57am

Doonesbury has been cutting through hypocrisy for longer than I’ve been around. You’ve gotta respect that even if you have no ear for satire.

More like satire that takes itself too seriously. BORING!

37   e   2006 Oct 6, 8:00am

Were you one of those people with a Garfield doll suctioned onto your car’s rear window? ; )

Heh... i never had a car until Y2k. By then, that fad was long gone.

Here's something that pisses me off... people who have "Baby on board" stickers.

WTF?

Maybe it's a warning to me that you're going to drive in a very distracted manner?

Or be the like the lady who wrote to the Merc about how she had no choice but to buy an SUV because she got rear ended twice in a year, so she needed a safer car. Right... because it wasn't your fault...

38   e   2006 Oct 6, 8:02am

Here's my #1 boomer rant:

"Thank goodness for Prop 13. Heh."

I sat next to one who said that one day at a tech event. I wished I was in Texas or Florida where its ok to shoot people.

39   chuckleby   2006 Oct 6, 8:04am

has there ever been a better anectode for how retarded the lending industry is?

how much longer can the inmates run the asylum?!

40   Peter P   2006 Oct 6, 8:05am

3) Thinking Steve Jobs is cool

Bill Gates is much cooler!
