Using DVDShrink or some such software, extract just the main movie out of your legally purchased DVDs and burn that into a separate blank DVD. Then watch that.
I am not a lawyer, so I don't know you can legally backup your own DVD, but I assume you can.
Does anyone know a modification for DVD players to allow a user true control over his own property?
I think technically you do not own the movie. You have only purchased the right to watch the movie in ways that are consistent with the terms.
The answer is don't buy the DVD, hey, don't buy any DVDs. I used to have a little sympathy for the industry until one trip to Beijing when I noticed that new release DVDs were selling for $3.25 in Sam's club. If they are willing to accept whatever profit that amounts to in China they should be willing to accept it here in the U.S. without all the fake moral outrage. Imagine that, moral outrage from those drug addicted perverts in Hollywood.
When you watch a DVD and are forced to watch the "FBI Warning" for 30 seconds, be aware that the warning is not from the FBI, it is only a movie industry harassment of viewers.
It is disappointing that DVD players refuse to allow fast-forwarding through the warnings, no doubt bowing to pressure from the industry. Does anyone know a modification for DVD players to allow a user true control over his own property?
