"Grieving New Mexico safety hauled off plane, booked for baggy pants"

What in the hell does that even mean? Talk about incoherent.

And it's about damn time that grown ass man pulls his damn pats up.
Buy his own Jet then he can dress how ever he wants. This aint France, now pull up your damn pants.

What gets me, is the news is acting like he's been wronged.
What in the fuck is wrong with this country. Some Asshole can walk around with his pants falling down off his Ass, and told to pull them up, and he refuses and is arrested, and everyone gets up in arms about it.
Meanwhile I think everyone with a brain, knows the captain and his underlings are the final word on those planes. Everyone has to comply to any request/demand. Ignorant thug ass urban dick heads included. These people trying hide behind their fashion statement excuse, aren't exempt from the Pilot's authority.

Yet it's just fine when the airlines play fat police.

4   elliemae   2011 Jun 17, 9:55am

So, his pants were down but his boxers covered his ass. Is there a difference between this and the trend of bra straps showing? He was covered,

Apocolypsefuck, you are hilarious!

5   Done!   2011 Jun 17, 10:35am

Ellie, it's not that his pants were up or down, it's that even HE has to listen to the captain. Just like the loud cell phone talking lady on the Bus.
People are finally learning the exactly what the word "Respect" means.
I love it!

The Captain wasn't reasonable. The airline employee who demanded that he pull up his pants, then chased him onto the plane wasn't reasonable.

It only became disruptive due to the actions of the airlines employees. The guy was sitting in an airline seat; his ass was covered to begin with but certainly seated on the plane there was nothing to see. It's not about respect. It's not about anything but an airline employee whose panties were in a knot, and it got out of hand.

Grieving is when your parent or partner dies. When you are busted for being a jerk and violent in an airplane, it's a convenient excuse for your bad behavior.

But he wasn't being a jerk or violent. His ass was covered. There are so many other issues that could be disruptive on an airplane or in the terminal, and I've seen much worse (plumber's ass crack in the airport, braless boobies busting out of tank tops, etc). Sure, he could have just pulled his pants up.

But we weren't there so we don't know what was said. An airline employee attacked him personally and he reacted by refusing to pull his pants up. Based on what I've read, they over-reacted and it became a situation with no happy outcome. It makes the airlines look like asses at a time when no one is really thrilled with airline/airport behavior.

I'd say that in the PR arena and court of public opinion, the airlines lost 0-1.

I think you are exactly right. Sometimes someone takes an incorrect dominant position, basically saying either comply or we have a big big problem. As a teacher, I occasionally get in to that kind of disciplinary situation with children, and once I have really strongly committed to a position, I can't back down from it.

You could put it this way: Someone at the airline asserted their power over something they shouldn't have, and he called them on it. It probably would have been smart for him to comply, even if they were wrong, just to avoid all the drama. But, that doesn't mean the airline didn't screw up.

From the video, I can't see that he hadn't complied. By the time the pilot got involved, it looks like it was over a complaint of someting that had alread happened (or not happened - that is his not pulling his pants up over his boxers on command).

I don't care for that style at all (the pants down exposing boxers), but when did having bad taste or clothing sensibilities become a crime?

Thanks for sharing the video Ellie. Btw, the repeated "yes sir," remark is a pattern I've seen. That is clearly a kid who has problems with authority, and who is trying to suppress his anger at what he sees as extreme bullshit. IT's hard not to conclude that they should have let the kid stay and that this is blatant racism.

18   MisdemeanorRebel   2011 Jun 18, 8:44am

If you can't see ass or dick, what's the problem?

What is this, a dress code for adult customers?

I see plenty of old ladies on the plane with their big birds hanging out of a too loose sun dress. There is no side cleavage - it's side nudity. Do they get escorted off the plane, too?

19   Done!   2011 Jun 18, 9:56am

Look I can't get into Ginger Bay, or Spice, when I'm in flip flops and shorts, and a T-Shrit, didn't see me show my Ass until I made national news. They shoulda gave him the rubber hose treatment. That does wonders for people's morale.

He didn't put the video online - we know this because he wasn't holding the camera nor was it in the same row as he. We don't know that he called the news - I find it doubtful that he did.

I find it sad that you believe that a young man who is complying with airline regulations should be beaten. This is one of those situations where someone should have asked whether it would be important tomorrow... or even in an hour. The answer, of course, would have been no.

Not living in the best. Just think people can dress a little better then having pants hanging below your butt.

I attend the Silicon Valley Symphony from time to time. Same problem there. Very few bother to dress up for the performance

23   elliemae   2011 Jun 18, 11:58am

I can see dressing up more for a symphony - but comfort is more important on an airplane and in the airport, where this "incident" began. Times have changed, people dress much more casually for everything.

The more that I read, it appears to be about an out-of-control airline employee who's allowed to roll that way.

24   Done!   2011 Jun 18, 1:03pm

If I've got to take off my shoes at the check point, then you've got to pull up your pants. And don't get to bring my bottle of water, and have to throw away my toothpaste because liquids now are dangerous. Flyings not a democracy anymore. And like I said, if you're not outraged at the police state. Then I don't give a damn, someone can't wear their Hijab, or some Dude has to pull his Britches up. It's a different world.

26   marcus   2011 Jun 18, 1:41pm

or some Dude has to pull his Britches up

So let me just get this straight. Generally speaking we aren't going to have an adult dress code for planes. But whatever some flight attendant says, regarding your clothing, if it's something you can adjust, and she is commanding you to adjust it, you better drop what's in your hands right now, I MEAN RIGHT NOW, AND DO AS SHE COMMANDED, or else be ready to be kicked off the plane?

I guess one racist asshole employee of US Air totally has the right to do whatever. And a lot of the public has the right to say, "fuck US Air" I'm not EVER going to fly that airline.

27   marcus   2011 Jun 18, 1:45pm

Then again, many who see this will think, wow, US Air is my kind of airline.

Btw, I ask boys pull up their pants every now and then, although that style is somewhat over. But what I demand of a child in my classroom, is entirely different than the way an adult should be treated walking on to a plane.

28   MAGA   2011 Jun 18, 2:28pm

I fly around 70K miles a year and I find that if I make the airline employee's life easier, they will do the same for me. LOL.

I still have issues with TSA grouping me because of my metal hip.

I'm not so sure it was racist - it seems to me that some asshole at the gate decided that the guy's pants should be pulled up, and instead of letting it go, it became about power & control. Instead of being the bigger person, the employee acted like an ass and contacted the captain to have the patient tossed off the aircraft.

Yep, they won that go 'round. And caused so much bad press for US Air in the process, it'll take a shitload of mea culpa to fix it, if that's even possible. Those links I added were of other people's experiences with the airline, including the ejection of a passenger with Cerebral Palsy. It's as if they have no control over their employees - yet their employees assert control over random passengers.

I think you can expect more instances of people being expelled from public places, for wearing their pants like a two year old, or an invalid.
People will be refused service in Restaurants, Grocery stores, public places, the Police will pull over and tell these simpletons to pull up their damn pants, especially grown men.

Do you really think that this one person who was ejected from a plane after already complying is the "shot heard around the world?" If so, you need to get back on your meds.

Nice touch, blaming the situation on the Liberals. It's the fall back position people on this board take when they've got nothing else to bring to the table.

My liberal position: I detest that style (the low pants boxers look) - it can't and won't last for a number of reasons. The kid was kind of a fool for not just doing what they asked (more quickly?) - something he has surely been hassled about before, when in high school.

But ultimately I think he was right, and I think very likely the airline people who chose to take it to the level they did made a FAR BIGGER MISTAKE. And I think almost certainly racism was involved.

If it had been a big shot or their child or a celebrity getting on to first class, you can be sure nothing would have been said.

Or maybe liberals just tend to be a bit more tolerant. Also they are less likely to have the same degree of racism that they need to defend and deny, doing mental gymnastics to explain how their racism isn't racism.

No, there was nothing racial about it, because ALL of the IDIOT kids, that are bent on destroying their young adult life and being caught in a perpetual state of not knowing where they fit in society, does not just effect a Race. That guy just happened to be Black. Are you saying, if they made me pull up my britches before I could board the plane, then I wouldn't have a leg to stand on, because I'm NOT BLACK?

The Youth or throwing their lives away, I've never seen so many disposible 20 year olds ever. Because all they learned in the last ten years, was "pull any shit you want" it's your right, it's all good. People owe you RESPECT, put Gold teeth in your mouth, wear pants to your knees grab your dick, talk loud any where in any situation, and demand repect the Loudest. That doesn't get them a cup of Coffee after high school. It hans'nt worked for White, Black, Latino, Chinese, Gays or the Retarded, excuse me Mentally challenged.

IN the mean time the qualified work force is older than ever in the History of American business. And the average age for the talent in American companies is growing every year.

It's not just pants on the ground, it's about a whole generation of Idiots, with their Ass showing to world, powerless to make a contribution. Other than showing their ass in public.

Way to fuck the team you tell 'em guys, fight for their right to be passed by.

The sad part is, the twenty somethings generation, siblings that are now turning 15 and 16 have no desire to take that diminished route. Because they see how that got their brothers, sisters, cousins, and their friends on the fast track to tossing pizza, or wearing fast food uniform and name tag. That's if they didn't end up in Jail, for the guys, or knocked up and dependent on welfare and food stamps with two babies daddies in Jail.

It's a lot more than just how people wear their pants, and being tolerant. I think people have been tolerant, and has taken a wait and see stance for over ten years as a whole generation of kids(all races) shit their lives away, thug worshiping.

People are fed up, in 2001 to protest the Miami Uban Beach week end, you were labeled a racist and a hater. Now there wasn't a story about the Memorial day week end debacle than didn't feature unanimous calls and cries to end it once and for all, in the news website in the comment threads.

I find it ironic that the only people who discussed politics in conjunction with this incident are rabidly anti-liberal. Ya'll throw out the blame on libs whenever you've nothing rational to say. It's petty and short-sighted.

Why can't this be about a guy who was thrown off an airplane after already complying with a request to pull up his pants - a request that was best left unsaid. The employee ought to be fired or suspended without pay for awhile for making this about his personal preferences and not letting it go as inconsequential. I don't believe it was about race, but I could be wrong.

But I'm positive that it's not about politics.

What a crock of shizzle. 95% of 20 year olds think that gangsta parady image is bs, and don't buy it at all. Some may like music from them, just like you might like music from 1969 hendrix or cream, it doesn't make you a heroin shooting hippie.

I don’t believe it was about race, but I could be wrong.

The racism (or classism) is just a part of it, not the entire motivation. I don't believe that the flight attendant or the pilot thought that race was a factor in the slightest.

But would it have happened if it was an attractive, rich looking 18 year old white boy getting on first class ? I think not. It may even be that the flight attendant would have commented for him to pull them up. But it wouldn't have been escalated the way it was, had he responded the exact same way Marman did.

It would be interesting to know where the pilot and flight attendant were from. I can nearly guarantee they are from either the south or from some small town in Kansas , Arkanasas, or Nebraska etc. Highly unlikely they are from a large modern metropolitan city. It's not about political party, no republican from New York City, Chicago, LA, San Francisco, or countless other cities would be so clueless.

Way to dance around the question.

If it were a white guy being tossed for going Urban, with his pants on the ground, would it be a racial thing then?

If it were a white guy being tossed for going Urban,

I have no idea what that even means. I've pretty much made my case.

I think looking at what happened in its entirety, it appears that racism or classism is a factor. (It's my opinion) I also think that if someone sees this story and has the gut reaction you do (that the airline was right - not just in asking him to pull up his pants, but in kicking him off ), then they are likely either racist or otherwise an angry out of touch person with major issues.
