What a buffoonish article. IN EVERY country, the "poor" are defined relative to the society in which they live. The 1% of Americans are not some out of work lady who found financing for a USED car.

I agree that the opening anecdote about Ms. Frakes was silly. But amid all the doom and gloom it's nice to consider the fact that by being Americans we have all won what Warren Buffet calls the "ovarian lottery":
