Hey Danny, have you ever read anything you've written here on Patrick about Americans, the 99% of the population who are believers?
It's 99% now, is it? More Cloud 'facts' I presume.
What's wrong with just silently protesting Jesus?
What's wrong with loudly protesting dumb people taking Goat Roaster myths seriously? And mocking those who try to intellectualize and apologize for Goat Roaster myths?
If we need a national mythology, why not Betty Crocker, the Jolly Green Giant, and the Burger King? I can't imagine Saint Betty of Astonishing Pancake Syrup saying she has come to set Father against Son, etc. The Jolly Green Giant can encourage and threaten kids who won't eat their veggies, etc. We can all wash ourselves in Holy Calgone Water. Manny, Moe, and Jack can be the gods of travel, etc. etc. etc.
Your posts are ridiculous, your arguments nonsensical. It's my personal assumption that militant atheists like yourself are that way because they have deep seated sexual issues and feel like God is mad at them over it. The threats to post pictures of man ass just confirm my long-held belief. I suggest therapy to confront anger issues and confused suppositions that are keeping you in a prison of resentment. You've been hurt by people, probably religious people even. But holding onto resentment is like drinking poison and hoping your enemies die of it. Got to learn to let go of the past . . .
Actually, the Original Post explains it: Your deep seated feelings have been rejected.
The shit you say above is the type of shit a spurned woman says about the dude who dumped or rejected her.
"Gotta be something wrong with him sexually."
"Serious Issues"
"Angry at the World"
"Secret evil hearted bastard"
In fact, read Isaiah. THAT book is classic spurned lover. "Thou Israelites are like whores, cheating on me with other lovers." and words to that effect.
Dan, thanks for that rejection video, it's spot on.
Assuming that atheism has been the driving force behind said horrors, there is nothing that was done by Stalin or Mao that has not also been done by believers -- of any flavor -- to advance religious causes. The "checks" allegedly put in place by religion have not worked.
Word. And the fact that people in prison are more religious than the general population doesn't help. Or that everyday we hear about a kid being abused, and it's usually a pastor or priest (and, rumors are flying in Brooklyn, Rabbis).
One question that needs to be asked: Why are so many religious authorities abusers or abuser apologists?

You guys are the Jerry Farwell tent revival of Atheists.
Here's the modern Liberal rewrite of Lennon's Imagine...
Imagine there's no Morons
It's kinda easy if you try, but then it's not.
Because there are morons, and that just tears me up.
You may say that I'm a zealot, but that's just a cop out.
Imagine if we didn't have anything to stand for...
No morals to constrain us, blame the 1% for our failures.
No white middle aged Christians to vote out our heroes.
You may say that I've been watching to much Bill Mahr,
but I'm not the only one.
Hope that someday everyone will be a Liberal, and the world can go to hell as one...
Hell is for Children reprieve...
Because Hell...
Hell!
Hell is for Liberals...
I forgot the righteous guitar solo...
(Insert face melting freak out here)
Here's the modern Liberal rewrite of Lennon's Imagine...
Wasn't the original version Liberal enough for you, Capt'n?
You are hated because of who you are
a small man who has said all Catholic woman are sluts
I see you're still stalking me, loser. Like you are fooling anyone with those lies. Anyone can see how you blantantly lie by reading All Trolls Are Sluts.
he still lives in his parent's basement where he watches porn because the red car isn't working as intended.
1. Just because I rented one of your mom's videos doesn't make me a porn addict.
2. I don't live in the same state as my parents, nonetheless in their basement.
3. There are no basements in Florida, you idiot.
4. My red sports car works perfectly, unlike your penis.
5. I paid my own way through college and have been debt free for fifteen years and make a far nicer living than any loser like you could.
6. You hateful petulance shows exactly why religion, and in particular Christianity, is evil. I attack bad ideas. You attack people. OK, I also attack people when they are complete fucking assholes like you, but even my patience has limits.
Keep up the posts. You make a far better case against your religion than I ever could.
It's 99% now, is it? More Cloud 'facts' I presume.
Cloud is incapable of getting any facts right. Even a cursory Google search reveals
And if you consider that many people claim to be religious just because of social and political pressure, it's probably a much more agnostic/atheist world.
But even forgetting that, monotheists barely make up half the world's population.
Not that popularity means truth. If anything, the more influence religion has on the world, the greater the need to oppose it.

Yep. Cloud is upset that I called him a slut and sexually rejected him. I was the first adult he ever tried to romantically pursue. Guess it's back to the pedovan for Cloud.
Why are so many religious authorities abusers or abuser apologists?
All Catholic priests are sluts?
Oh no, more ammo for the troll Cloud to take out of context.
Wasn't the original version Liberal enough for you, Capt'n?
That was different era when Liberals respected people.
In the whole song, Lennon never once was condescending, or thought religious people are idiots.
You guys don't really wish for a world with out religion because of the tower babble confusion and conflict. You just want more manageable voter base.
Imagine that!
You guys are the Jerry Farwell tent revival of Atheists.
Yeah, totally the same.
Atheist Quotes
"When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle. Then I realized that the Lord does not work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me." The attribution says Emo Philips, presumably in jest, but I think Mitt Romney said it and meant it.
That was different era when Liberals respected people.
1. Hippies aren't liberals.
2. Hippies had no respect for the man or anyone over 30.
In the whole song, Lennon never once was condescending, or thought religious people are idiots.
1. Most people on the planet are idiots, and those who say otherwise are part of that majority.
2. Pointing out the absurdity of religious doctrine is not an attack on the religious but the religion.
3. There is nothing wrong with attacking those religious who are idiots and are causing irreparable harm to the world. Case in point: G.W. Bush. Remember he said, "God told me to invade Iraq." and then a million people died. Such people should be attacked verbally to prevent others from following their psychopathic ways.
4. Unfortunately, a third of the people in this country support such psychopaths. Hundreds of millions of Middle Eastern men and women also are brainwashed by religion into being violent and dangerous. There is plenty of legitimate reason to oppose religion. Throughout history religion has motivate people to do great evil.
You guys don't really wish for a world with out religion because of the tower babble confusion and conflict. You just want more manageable voter base.
I certainly don't want people voting for the next Bush because of religion. And I certainly don't want someone who hears an imaginary voice in their head telling them what to do to have his finger on the button.
All it takes is some nutjob president hearing "god" telling him to start a nuclear war and it's game over man.

Imagine came out in the 80's, the Hippies morphed into Yuppies by then. There's no damn Hippies with a Manhattan condo on Central park.

OK thanks for your honesty, next.
After the religious nut jobs we can run the Country and Western singers out of town on a pole. They can't be trusted either in this agenda of yours.

Most hippies did, true. John Lennon, the king of the hippies, didn't.

It's not just honesty. It's a damn good reason to be wary of electing anyone who is religious to the Oval office.
Religion is not rational. Believing in superstitions is delusional. Why would you want anyone who has these characteristics to hold the nuclear codes? We do background checks for jobs. If a job involves having access to nuclear weapons, the background check should include making sure the person doesn't believe in imaginary people with superpowers.

I didn't know Taylor Swift committed genocide, tortured Jews until they converted, or flew airplanes into skyscrapers.
Oh, by the way, I listen to Kiss Country south Florida's country music station regularly, and Taylor Swift is my idea of the perfect woman. Guess I don't fit the Straw Man outfit you made for me.
Oh, by the way, I listen to Kiss Country
Is it that you like the music, or is an excuse to don the boots and hat?
There's no way in hell you're listening to the words.
Kiss Country plays Delilah in the evenings, and she has a cool program, very spiritual.
But, Kiss Country does not play enough Waylon, Merle, Willy, George Jones, Marty Robbins, Coe, Lefty, Cash, Straight, Loretta, Tammy, or Moe Bandy. In my opinion.
The best new talent is Jamey Johnson.
Is it that you like the music, or is an excuse to don the boots and hat?
You got me. Here's a shot of me with my posse.
There's no way in hell you're listening to the words.
Isn't every country songs are about drinking after you wife left you and stole your truck and your dog ran away, or your dog left you and stole your wife and your truck ran away?
If you want deep lyrics, listen to old Simon and Garfunkel songs.

Captain, Captain, I think you need to check your facts. Again.
I think once can afford clean new clothes, you're no longer a hippie.
Even if you choose to live a dishevel appearance.
At that point you're just a rich slob, with long hair.

Remind us all again when Imagine was released.
Remind us all again when Imagine was released.
Imagine came out in the 80's
Well, it was release in the 1980s. That is a fact.
It is also a fact that the the release in the 80s was not the first release. I think the question here is when was the first release.

Obviously the time it CAME OUT is rather a long way off where Captain thinks it is, but there's no surprise in that.

Ah, haha, yeah.
You will never catch me accusing Shaddup of being too through with the fact checking of his/her posts. On second thought, of doing any fact checking.

First of all, the Republican Party is "not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact checkers". I don't know why you have a problem with that. The Republican Party is about wining in a fictional world, you know like Middle Earth from Lord of the Rings. And Obama is Lord Sauron.

Please note that the original video is creepier, but I'm going to post it anyway.

In any case, when Imagine was released is irrelevant. Captain's point was that all the hippies became yuppies and the album Imagine reflects the yuppy lifestyle rather than hippie lifestyle. Given what John Lennon looked like and how he lived at the time, I think that Captain's point is pretty much wrong regardless of when the album was released.
I stand corrected, Imagine was released in 1971.
I was thinking it was on double fantasy.

Wookies don't smell as bad.
Imagine no fanatical ideologies.
You first have to imagine no God. It's a wonderful feeling.
I think it's that people don't like to be told the basis of their being is factually incorrect and when irrefutable facts are presented to them they disregard them and it makes their false convictions stronger.
This applies to the 2 biggest taboo subjects for whites in the US, race and religion.
http://www.amren.com/features/2012/08/why-everyone-else-is-wrong/
Thanks for posting this insight which may shed some light, but it cannot explain by itself the whole issue.
For example, while some religious people react the same way to atheists and romantic rejection, others do not. Usually, those with the most doubts about their faith are more likely to proselytize; it would be interesting to test whether they also react worse to atheists, and to test whether people with low self esteem react worse to romantic rejection. I suspect both of those hypotheses are probably true, but I haven't seen any data.
Fear is another variable. Our "allies" in Pakistan, where even being associated with a blasphemer can get you killed, are simply terrified:
http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2012/09/06/166922/unexpected-support-for-christian.html
In that context, the reaction to a blasphemer is not only "you have rejected me romantically" but also "any association with you might get me murdered!" Cultures of fear tend to breed fanaticism independently of religion, as North Korea illustrates: North Koreans appear ridiculously devoted to their Despotic Leader, whoever the latest one is. Fear and religion are also connected intrinsically, as people are more likely to turn to religion when afraid; anything that causes them doubt (like the existence of non-believers) may heighten their fear.

Removal of "religion" from a society does not remove the innate desire of some humans to believe in the supernatural. Often personality cults fill the vacuum when religion is "forcibly" removed. These cults often dip into spiritual and supernatural.
FYI, North Korea is not the greatest example of a religion free society because they actually have Juche as the official religion. Their leaders are "Heaven Born", "Heaven Sent", etc. Many supernatural powers are attributed to the "great leader". Did you know that Kim Jong-il did not defecate or urinate like the rest of us disgusting slobs? You know all that shit people say about Chuck Norris? Yeah, Juche tells those kind of stories about the North Korean leaders and people believe it.
While he does not inspire the same level of fanaticism Che Guevara is a good example of a larger than life figurehead.
Removal of "religion" from a society does not remove the innate desire of some humans to believe in the supernatural.
No, but it is a first step. Plus astrology hasn't influenced national policy since Nancy Reagan.
Plus astrology hasn't influenced national policy since Nancy Reagan.
Ah, hahaha good call-back.
How would the atheists activists here remove the religious from society if they were given the power of God and say the US military?
We've seen what other atheists have done. WWPAD do? What would Patrick's atheists do?
Why do I get the feeling this sort of post says a lot more about you and your thinking than that of atheists?
Don't know anything about your feelings other than you use them instead to form an opinion.
I am simply curious as to what an American atheist activist would do if they controlled our government.
On would think from reading Dan's hysterics and spew, that our country is being over run by the Taliban.
This country is hugely tolerant of all religions, including the atheist one.
Cloud, Cloud, Cloud, atheism is not a religion as you should know, and if you don't, then you should really refrain from posting on the topic. And how the hell should anybody know what an atheist would do in power? Presumably that would entirely depend on what their views on economics and social issues was. You know a lot of leaders in Europe are and have been atheist. I haven't noticed prisons set up to house Christians or the like. In fact, I'd say the level of general tolerance is pretty high in Europe, and there's also rather a lot less fundamentalist Christian tub-thumping that goes on compared to the US. Just my opinion of course.
