I am a regular reader of this forum and I have a teenage daughter who I'm very protective of because the world is full of guys who see young women as sexual objects.

While I agree that the photo of the realtor was a lapse in judgement (it's unprofessional), the comments about her being a hooker and latinas seeming to look more like models come off as sexist and borderline racist.

This woman is someone's daughter. Would you want your daughter or sister discussed this way? Why stoop to personal attacks?

That's a Straw Man argument. No one on this thread has even suggested that she is a hooker or that she actually has sex to close deals. They stated that she uses physical attraction to help sales, and that's so very obviously true you'd have to be an idiot to deny it.

Furthermore, it's not racist to say that Latinos are attractive. Racism is derogatory, not complimentary.

Finally, women are sex objects. So are men. We're sexually reproducing animals and sex is the single most important thing in human life, for without it, there would be no human life. The statement that sexual attractiveness is derogatory is utterly ridiculous. (Although personally, I don't see what's so hot about this realtor.)

As for your teenage daughter, if she's like most teenage Americans, she's probably already having sex. Just because she's an "innocent" virgin in your head, doesn't mean she is in real life. Think about all the things you did when you were a teenager that your parents didn't know about. Multiply that by 10.

In the 19th century, a sixteen year-old was considered an adult. The early 20th century moved that age to 18. The mid-20th century moved the age to 21. By the 1970s, you weren't considered an adult until graduating from college at 22. By the 1990s, Gen X considered adulthood to be a few years after college at 25. The Millennials are pushing the age to 30.

However, the fact is that no matter how much as a society we try to prolong childhood, biology does not get delayed. We grow old at the same rate we did 1,000 years ago even if we pretend to be children until our 26th birthday. Short of forcing genetic modification of all human beings, there is no way to delay sexual maturity in our species to conform to the time-frame imposed by our culture. It's best to just deal with the reality.

You're afraid that your daughter will be too highly valued as a potential mate by young men? What you really should be afraid of is her not being wise enough to take advantage of this and lock in a good mate while her reproductive value is high. At age 30, she will have the exact opposite problem, too few men will be interested in her.

And that graph doesn't even take into account that women tend to mate with and marry older men. The fact is, the mating market is heavily in favor of women in the teens and young adulthood, but heavily in favor of men by age 30. Even some women are starting to get the idea.

By the way, giving out this information, goes against my own selfish interests. I'm one of the happy 30-somthing single men who's just on the other side of the power flip. So I'm actually acting against my own self-interest by letting you know these truths. It's so much in my self-interest that your daughter doesn't gain the wisdom to appreciate the power she has now, so that she'll be single at age 22 and ripe for men like me. So the fact that I'm telling you the truth despite my own interest in preserving the status quo should make you keen to listen, but if your like most human beings, you won't be that smart.

And if that's not enough to convince you that women need to take advantage of their ability to attract long-term mates while they are young, consider this graph and the accompanying article.

The ratio of single mothers to married mothers is rising steadily, and it's not pregnant teens that are responsible for this. It's middle aged women who realize they can no longer attract a husband but still want to reproduce.

And before you get on a bullshit pulpit that single mothers can raise children, no one is arguing against that. But have you ever tried to move furniture to a new apartment by yourself? It's nearly impossible. But when you have just one partner, it's merely hard. Same goes for raising children. Having double the income, an extra chauffeur, the ability to take shifts, etc. makes a lot of difference.

So abandon this bullshit idea that lust in young men is somehow a bad thing. Without lust, there is no pair-bonding, no monogamy, no commitment to a woman and any children a man produces with her. I'm not saying lust lasts forever, but it is necessary for the long-term pair-bonding in our species.

Furthermore, love and lust are for the young, not the middle aged and old. Sex with plain Jane when your 18 is mind blowing. Sex with a supermodel when your 30-something is okay, but mainly an ego thing. Those high testosterone levels in young men serves a purpose. Without them, men are less willing to sacrifice and commit to women.

As a side note, I hypothesis that the main problems that men and women have today in the dating and marriage arenas have to do with the wide separation of years between biological maturity and cultural adulthood. And there really are only two solutions to this problem, either bring back cultural adulthood in line with biological maturity as it was in the past or slow down biological maturity to compensate for cultural adulthood.

America was founded by the Puritans and that influence can still be seen today. I just watched an old Lucy Show where they weren't allowed to use the word pregnant. But ironically American women are considered among the easiest in the world. Even back then. That's why my uncle and my grandfather came to America from Spain. Latin women may be flirtatious and look easy but they're very family oriented and very Catholic.

Parents often project their own fears, hangups and weaknesses on to their children when in reality their children thankfully may have better moral fiber than they do growing up in a slightly less hypocritical and ignorant society. Me thinks the American "lady" doth protesteth too much. :)
