Pretty interesting government site allowing you to investigate Maui land title holdings . . .

e.g.

is a big plot of land equivalent if not superior to the Maui Meadows development.

Purchased for $200M last decade, paying $600k/yr in taxes (0.3%) pa to specuvest.

Here's the parcel map where you can explore the island. . .

Ulupalukua Ranch Inc owns a stunning corner of the island (along with 20,000 other acres)

1500 acres, paying $340/yr property tax.

You'd have to search long and hard for an industry and economic sector as crooked as real estate.

heh, I found a parcel owned by this scumbag:

~150 prime Maui acres, assessed at $40k / acre, tax rate $240/acre pa to hold the property off the market.

This is not doing my blood pressure any good.
