We are probably headed this way.

Yes, quite a few Americans would see this as fair. But not everyone wants to own, as owning means you are responsible for upkeep. Also, who is going to loan the money for purchase? Likely the owner will be required to finance. I also see a game coming, where the landlords will stop leasing to any individual after 18 years and then the government creates more laws to stop that practice.

I can easily imagine that the People's Republic of California will be very inspired by this news story.
