Otis Oldfield sounds like he was a wonderful man in addition to a great artist if not so well known. Sadly, a lot of those boys probably lost their lives in the war, but hopefully those who survived were able to make good livings in the postwar prosperity to somewhat make amends for their hardscrabble existence as youngsters.
"The Oldfield family found out about gentrification 1930s style when the landlord raised the rent for a flat at the top of Telegraph Hill from $10 to $12 a month. Oldfield thought that was outrageous and moved to Russian Hill."
