I was reading about the Waggoner Ranch in Texas which has been on the auction block for a while. 510,000 acres for $725 million. I got out my trusty Google Calculator and...holy moly, that's only $1421 an acre!

Isn't that the deal of a century. I mean, all I want is one acre.

Then I thought, you know what this country really needs to get going again...Homesteading! That's right. If you claim the acre, or quarter acre, you get it for free. You just have to develop it, put a house up, live on it.

Let's say we go with a quarter acre. That's residences for 2 million people! Young people. Legal immigrants.

If the Government wants to "do something" then it should be opening up more land to people for little or no cost so long as they develop it and use it. Buy up the ranch and open 1/4th acres for $400 per.

Come up to the Midwest. The upper Michigan peninsula has a ton of land for dirt cheap. Now you have to endure the winters-but you will never run out of water!
