Why on earth is AAPL stock so fucking high? They have proven once again the inability to innovate. They are quite simply behind in everything and not catching up. The iPhone 6 is a joke. And some of you think stocks are going to continue climbing? For what? What is apple innovating or producing that is worth the money? I realize people buy it, but at the same time their stock is doubling annually, they are continuing to lose ground to their competitors.

So your'e saying....dogs are better than bitches.

You are so wrong, it may be what you want from a woman, but you don't have to make any woman your wife.

Just giving the girls a hard time.

ChapulinColorado says

Smart phones should be cheap, easy to use, gorgeous, un-jealous, disposable, interchangeable (operating systems). I bet Apple will continue to loose marketshare worldwide. The cheaper brands will be taking up the lions share in the next decade.

Apple does not have the largest market share overall. They have the largest market share among the high end users. The difference in price is not so much, the difference in technology is tremendous.

Teenage girls and GenX moms? CC was talking about phones, you know.

Price difference is negligible at best. But the difference in technology is staggering as shown in the OP.

Android has so much more to choose from. It's almost like the operating system is continuously morphing and mutating faster than iOS and continues to spread "virally". It will be hard for APPL to keep up.

Android has so many phone manufacturers with very impressive hardward that has already surpassed APPL on a global scale. Whereas I love APPL with my iPad, iPad mini, 2 iPhone 3s, (switched to Galaxy), at the end of the day, the victory will go to the most universal OS with the most variety across all price spectrums, and with China coming in strong in sales in cheap smart phones, I would not bank on iOS to continue to set the standard nor increase market share in the near future.

The vast number of apps for Android coming from the entire globe continue to dwarf the iStore/iTunes.

Plus the overpriced APPL Watch will be too expensive for most to want to afford. Watch will just be a fad. Always buy a waterproof watch (APPL?) no matter who the manufacturer is, I can't see people staying hooked on this APPL relic for more than a couple of years, unless it can make you a venti caramel iced frappacino, uncork and pour some pinot noir, give you a foot and back massage while in the hot tub, perform a hand-job (getting a bj would be spot-on) or hold IT while you are taking a leak, the Watch will not be a hit.

I went to the Apple store today to change my iPhone 5 battery that was run down. That place creeps me out, their customer service sucks, and every customer in there seems so fake, like they are trying to be cool with the latest gadget. To some people, the Apple Store is their place of worship. For me, I hate it with a passion.

I like their products (have an iPad and iPhone), but I will buy a PC over an Apple laptop in a heartbeat. Price to me for desktops and laptops means everything, comparing apples to apples.

52   Y   2014 Sep 9, 11:51pm

quite simply, android, windows, etc operating systems require more knowledge to operate efficiently and safely, the tradeoff being more software flexibility and user customization.

apple OS is designed for ease of use and fashion statements, geared more towards the egotistically inclined. The tradeoff being you are captured in a closed system and must obtain apples approval for anything and everything.

thats because microsoft owners are educated enough to self-correct any problems, unlike apple fanbotz who flock to the genius bar every time their nano shrieks a quarter note off key...

I prefer the Microsoft Store experience though. There are usually twenty employees entertaining me as the sole customer. LOL.

knowing which brand to buy is key.
or better yet, build your own.

The Dell and Hp I used to buy, would sputter and freeze after 1 or 2 years, and I would have to get a new one.

That is because you bought HP and probably cheap Dell. If you spend the same on a PC as you do on an Apple, you get the same computer (if not better).

55   Y   2014 Sep 9, 11:58pm

for the best of both worlds, get an apple airbook for the hardware and install windows 7 64 bit for the software.

The very first data piece you provided about screen size is wrong. iphone 6 has a 5.5 inch screen as an option.
When I used to buy PC's I would always look at RAM, Hard drive, processor speed etc. etc. I have no idea on anything with the MacBook I am typing on, and don't even care. All I know is it turns on right away, and works perfectly every time.
If anyone tries to take it away from me, I will kill them. :)

You remind me of teenagers talking smack about which car is best.

60   myob   2014 Sep 10, 3:13am

The specs don't matter. Apple is selling a vanity product, and they're selling their software ecosystem. I've got both iOS and Android phones, and I use the iOS phone 99% of the time because of the user interface.

This is like asking why someone would buy designer jeans when cheaper, better jeans are available.

Oh wait, that's not a picture of an Android store....

I was at the mall a few weeks ago, and was just blown away at all of the Johnny Come Lately stores in the mall.
The Apple store, the Microsoft store, and the Sony Store.

They all had the same format. I wandered around the mall trying to find a Samsung store, but there just wasn't any.

Samsung stands on their own in the retail space. They don't need a special store to sell their quality products.

The thing that struck me as very odd about those tech retail stores.
Was all of these tables with their product laid out on them, no detailed specs and no price listed. As if you have to stand there and wait untold minutes or hours for one of the reps to come over and tell you what every limited misinformation that they may have.

I just laughed and walked out, did the same at all three stores.
the Apple store, the Microsoft store, and the Sony Store.

I can at least respect Apple they get a free pass on this clear Douchebaggery violation, because they invented this kind of store.
Well actually they copied the Gateway stores, but they aren't around anymore.

Just bought this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152553

Upgraded the RAM and SSD. This puppy has a few SSD slots each accepting up to 1T. Blows the doors off any apple offering. It is heavy though but that's because it's such a beast.

My HTC EVO is about 4 years old and the battery only gives me about 30mins of talk time at this point. Rather than change it I'm going to buy the Galaxy Note 4 next month. It'll be my first Samsung product. I do like android.

Last time I used an apple product was 1999 in a molecular genetics lab. Their processors were shit though. If you wanted to do any accurate, precise math you used an intel chip. There are no apple machines in labs these days that I'm aware of even though they're using PC architecture now too. Some fellow software developers use them. Mostly I see marketing peeps using them.

No the screen size was not "wrong". I found a table that compared all the phones and gave it to you. I know that apple also has a 5.5" screen option. As far as I can find, the specs are all the same except screen size.

Strategist says

Nowadays, you won't notice the difference between 4 GB RAM and 8GB+ on a desktop or laptop. The specs are overdone and meaningless: you are absolutely correct about this. (Unless you game or watch 16 windows of porn videos simultaneously...theoretically speaking...)

However, what those specs at the top did not include was that the galaxy note 4 also has an octacore option. Now, will we notice a dual core (apple) vs. octacore (samsung) on a phone? I don't know. Dual core just seems so old school ;-)

I don't think I get this. Who is cheaper and better? All the phones are the same price and the computers (for the same specs/quality) are the same price...

I'm sure it was a Dell, with the owner looking for a big enough trash can to dump it in. If an Apple fails, it's because someone tried to wash it in a dishwasher.

Ah you're right. It was a Dell box. Walking into the Apple store. Is that a requirement? You cannot carry anything into the store for repair if packaged with the Apple logo?

73   EBGuy   2014 Sep 10, 6:11am

Not getting to much info on this thread. Just saw that Apple jumped ship to TSMC with the A8 processor @ 20nm. Note to others, Snapdragon 805 is built on a 28nm line. And Snapdragon 805s are the last gasp for 32 bit ARM cores. Jeesshhh, guys, let's dig a little and try to be relevant. As I said, never owned an Apple product, but appreciate Jobs take over of the universe with the "go vertical or go home" philosophy. Will be interesting to see how long Apple can milk it.

Edit: note that Apple began the 64 bit transition the the A7 processor.

74   justme   2014 Sep 10, 6:19am

Apple is just an overprized status symbol. Once the status vanes, so will sales.

Their laptops have had plenty of issues over the years - failing graphics cards seems to be a recurring theme. I had a Macbook Pro under Applecare that finally got replaced for free after repeated problems. They produce tech. Tech fails. One advantage with Apple is that they are generally pretty good at sorting it out (as long as you're covered) but that all comes at a premium. Mind, I think their Macbook Airs have represented pretty good value over the years.
The new iphone though looks expensive (and oversized) in comparison to some Androids currently on the market. Spending close to a $1000 on an unlocked phone is a bit much especially given how common it is to drop the damn things.

Apple is a world changer.. Samsung and other companies are followers. I guarantee you that the Apple Pay feature on the new IPHONE is gonna change how we buy things. You'll look like a luddite if you are paying for something with cash or card in 5 years.

Apple makes science fiction work in the real world. Before the IPHONE... no one would have thought people would be walking around with touchscreen phones by their sides 24/7. Apple made that happen through ease of use.

The practically killed off the NETBOOK from existence in a single year after the IPAD was released.

Way back in early 2000 they resurrected the music industry from near death by NAPSTER with the IPOD.

Denying this company has changed the world and isn't going to continue changing the world is pretty short-sighted.

Apple definitely changes our lifestyle with each introduction of a major technology. If we can now leave our wallets at home guess what we will have to do first? Buy an iphone. Ha ha ha. You guys are hooked...you have no choice.
JH, Apple stock is way underpriced. I got in at $440.00 and have been preaching how undervalued the stock is ever since. Apple Will Be The First Company On This Planet To Be Worth $1 trillion In Market Cap. You have it in writing. :) :)

Apple innovates and then goes to sleep. It is a microcosm of American manufacturing. Think TVs, cars... while apple sleeps it dreams of patent infringement.

Samsung makes the chip in the iPhone. It's really not that great when your suppliers make a competing product.

Samsung made the A7, but the A8 is made by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).

Apple and Samsung have a complicated relationship. During much of the Apple v Samsung litigation, Apple was also Samsung's biggest customer, including chips and displays; that might still be true. They compete, they litigate, and they continue making stuff.

86   JH   2014 Sep 11, 4:36am

Somebody worried it will not sell???

The iPhone 6 hasn't even been released yet, but there's already a way to get it for free.
In an unusual move, Verizon Wireless (VZ, Tech30) announced Tuesday it would give away one of the phones Apple (AAPL, Tech30) revealed earlier in the afternoon.
