Probably not unreasonable. I remember in the mid-80's a story in the Dallas Times Herald called "The Dying of Howie" (Howard Daire, a Dallas psychotherapist who died in 1986). He was pictured at the end with the gaunt, hollow cheeks so common in AIDS patients. I know it was meant to arouse sympathy, but it actually caused a lot of outrage. When his life was described, his vacations were spent in exotic places for the specific purpose of having sex with as many men as possible and how much he loved it and missed it by this time. He seemed to think that was a reasonable way to live and so did many millions of other men like him. I remember a gay man I worked with who would brag about his exploits at the baths every night--one day he said "I got f****d 14 times last night" (this was in the late 70's). It never seemed odd to me that if you live in the sewer amid sewage you're probably going to get sick, it was just never anticipated it would turn out so terrible.

Got any facts to go with that conjecture?
Why is that people immigrate to this country if it is so bad?

The age-old puzzlement.
Also socialism is often referred to as "cradle to grave" because it has no answers or provisions beyond the grave, it leaves you in the lurch.
