I used to be thankful for affordable housing for everyone, but then lenders reflated the housing bubble with the government’s blessing.

It has less to do with selling houses, and more to do with justifying practically giving away houses that they couldn't sell at inflated prices to investment companies.

I think the archaic word they used to call it was Fraud and Racketeering.
