Goddamn it, i want to keep google out of my life entirely, but now my employer uses gmail, so have to use it, and my employer put my first and last name on it: first.last@mycompany.com

To view my work calendar on my phone i have to add that account, so google knows my phone now too.

Even viewing a youtube video at work i noticed that they have me logged in to youtube (which google owns). if i log out, i can't read my email...

Google is the worst thing ever to happen to privacy.

That being said, I love Cranks of the old "UFOs are Real" documentary type.

For the past 3 years, I've been reminiscing about how amazing the internet was 20 years ago. It's devolved into a pile of stupid social media videos/posts, fabricated media stories, and orwelian overlords deleting and censoring free discourse. Meanwhile, there clearly was a coordinated effort to reduce discourse by nearly every media site "temporarily suspending" or eliminating comments going into this election.

Everything gets wrecked when Regular Males aren't in charge.

I keep hoping for Freenet or some alternative to the entire damn thing, that requires a good half hour for a well intentioned lay man to connect to, and the process is deliberately changed every few months so dumbasses and chicks can't get a cut and past on how to do it like myspace themes

Somehow make it ass backwards to connect so it's not a matter of just connecting to WiFi.

This is true. Personally tested.

Yandex does make requests to a zillion different sites when you load those images, far more than Duckduckgo, but maybe it's not nefarious.

Maybe I should put some time into my idea of just having an sftp proxy locally.

Your browser would connect to that, and that would use your ssh key to connect to someone's server and sftp the content down to you.

Thing is, it would still require people issue a set of arcane commands in a terminal to get set up.

Nice Youtube replacement: www.rumble.com

Thanks! This looks good too.

Does not demand that I let them track me with cookies or localstorage in order to work. Sadly, Bitchute does.
81   Maga_Chaos_Monkey   2020 Nov 10, 7:33pm

I just tried the rumble app on my roku. It sucks. I can't even read the black text on a white background.

Hopefully they improve it. I just started clicking on videos but I didn't know what they were about necessarily. Also, no timestamps so I couldn't tell if it was some old vid.

So far getting bitchute onto the roku apparently requires some surgery. I plan to try that soon.

Less bigfoot/illuminati crap.

I'm going to have to give it a try. Can you share some links to some good channels/ commentators?

I'd like to also suggest https://www.brandnewtube.com as well.

Put 5 different sites together and you have the youtube you liked and wanted, but "youtube" now is just corporate propaganda and a few people not giving up on the shitty site.

I made a script that I used to download all youtube videos I watched that I wanted to review later. It's interesting as hell to see what has been censored - got a script for that as well. I'll eventually take everything that's been removed (for whatever reason), and make a torrent. You get a list of what has been censored and the most interesting thing to see is what your overlords don't want you to see.
83   theoakman   2020 Nov 10, 8:31pm

Do we just need to go back to dial up BBS to find free discourse?
85   SunnyvaleCA   2020 Nov 10, 10:06pm

I started using Bing instead of Google for my searches from desktop computer. I suppose it's not as good, but it works fine generally. I love the pretty picture-of-the-day!

More recently I switched my low-security from Chrome to Edge (Microsoft's new browser). Edge has been great generally. It appears to be a very close ripoff of Chrome, which isn't much surprise as much of the underlying technology is the same.

There's just one minor problem now... AdBlock and Ghostry are thwarted by Edge when Edge is pointed at the Bing search page! Ha. So Bing from Chrome is pretty good, but Bing from Edge is somewhat annoying. Oh well. It's a small price to pay.

Hillariously, up until a few years ago I liked to boast that I had been "Microsoft free since 2002!" Now I'm actually switching TO Microsoft because it's by far the lesser evil.

Fortunately, if you have an iPhone, Apple Maps has been steadily getting better. That might not be saying much, given its rocky start, but it really is pretty good most of the time now. If you're not using an iPhone, then your entire phone operating system and all the built in apps are thoroughly compromised. And I don't think some sort of knock-off Chinese OS is going to be your saviour!
88   zzyzzx   2020 Nov 12, 11:03am

Google just disable their music app and now looking to force everyone to use YouTube music. So I disabled it and found something else that doesn't do ads or require any permissions that it actually needs.

Exactly. I feel the same way. Microsoft hit some limit of monopoly power, probably when it just became too obvious even for our own DOJ to ignore.

Somehow, they still haven't caught up with Google, and probably for the same reasons: government likes the power to spy on us and block content that Microsoft and Google give them. They probably like it even more when they spy on foreigners.

Just open up a web browser in incognito mode. When you close it, all cookies and localstorage are gone.

https://reclaimthenet.org/youtube-censorship-candace-owens-men-women-podcast/

Political commentator Candace Owens accused YouTube of being “batshit woke” after it removed her podcast about gender identity. It is not clear why YouTube suddenly found the video offensive after being on the platform for a year.

On Friday, Owens tweeted that YouTube had removed her video because she said “men are not women and women are not men.” According to her remarks in the video are not so-called “hate speech” but the truth.

Oh please. Jesus. If somehow Europeans could not make it over here till now, Native Americans would still be living like they did in the 1500's. I don't doubt that at all.

I personally don't know any Native Americans, but they were sooooooooo damn primitive when we arrived. Even the communities they have now are generally sketchville. I'm sure most are nice people if you got to know them. They just don't seem very intelligent. Harsh opinion, but I don't think it's far from the truth.

True, they were a stone age people but they did give us corn, tomatoes, potatoes, and sweet potatoes. Now imagine Italian food without tomatoes or Russia Vodka made without potatoes. Also imagine no cigars, chewing tobacco, cigarettes, or Prince Albert in a can.

And I thought Stoly production used up the supply of potatoes, and that was why potatoes at dinner were considered a treat in the Soviet Union. But you are correct.

I think export Stoli is not made in Russia any more. There was a flurry of assassinations, bombings, executions, followed by lawsuits, and now there is one Stoli for Russia made in Russia, and another for Europe/US of A made in Baltic countries. Typical E. European business experience. One acquaintance of mine exited this business in early 90's after his business partner was turned into a sieve with a help of AK-47.
111   Patrick   2020 Nov 27, 11:49am

That sounds about right. I worked with a guy whose parents ran an ISP in Russia, until the police noticed that it was profitable and confiscated their whole setup to run it for their own profit.

Who do you go to when the police are robbing you?

The family moved to Canada after that.

Well, it's not like they really gave them. They are native plants that the Indians happened to use. I guess they did improve corn yields quite a bit through selective breeding of bigger ears.

@Patrick, A true story from E. Europe 1992: another friend of mine was in municipal police. Main income source for him was shaking down illegal exporters of metals (metal was stolen from State enterprises). After half year of lucrative "business" they shook down a group of crooks who had already paid off State police, so he got arrested. A month later State police who arrested him were arrested as well. Those particular crooks had paid off officials in Interior Ministry...so if police shakes down your business, pay off higher ranking officials.
