Microsoft has end of life'd them selves out of usefulness.
Good riddance!!!

Windows 95 would be the world's desktop today, had Microsoft, just invested all their efforts in building on top of 95 to bring us the snappiness that became Windows 8.
They should have just stabilized Windows 95, then just updated it as the hardware got more powerful to take advantage of the hardware upgrades over the years.
It should have stayed peripheral concentric and by now.

You should be able to plug any hardware device that was made after 1995 into any brand new computer and that peripheral device should work.

Your average computer user has thrown away more money on peripherals and hardware that were junk by the next windows release than they have spent on all of the computers they've bought combined.

Also the computer would still be able to run any software that was written since then as well. Could you imagine a VB4 application running on modern hardware?
I bet all of the blue screens of death would be non issue. Don't forget by time Windows 98 came out, the top of the line computers were running a puny 16 megs.
Windows problem early on was really it was doing way too much with way to little memory. The hardware wasn't ready for it.
