Pundits are apparently still not getting that rents/prices are sky-rocketing and many millennials don't have the money.
(And the prices competition simply reflects the fact that there just isn't enough apartments to house this entire generation.)

They already have to compete with families that live in converted garages that violates the city code. They still pay boatload in rent for the privilege of familiarizing themselves with the roaches. I heard that happens in some parts of san jose more frequently that people think.
