I shudder to think how we would fare with a competent enemy-like say China. They probably have all of our designs by now-must have hacked into our system years ago and made cheaper versions of it. Though their quality is not great-I wonder if parts of the ship were made in China-do they allow military stuff to be offshored-at least parts??

This is so stupid, a long distance shallow water vessel. 57mm Gun is no offshore fire support gun. The missiles can be launched way offshore.

Such a ship is vulnerable to every kind of threat by land, sea, and air. It's basically useful only against 3rd, probably only 4th world states, but then any 40-year old destroyer can do the same thing.

True Conservatives would demand full refund of all monies spent if the final product does not exceed all contract requirements.

Yes, because it's actually a 800 million dollar ship and it neads a recovery from the sea bottom first and only then a tow.

Yeah, the littoral combat ship (LCS) ... should just give them away via the foreign military sales program like the US Navy and Coast Guard gives away its ships and cutters ...

The Navy should just stick with Virginia class submarines and Arleigh Burke Destroyers .... let the Coast Guard handle littoral waters patrols ....

I read the Navy is going to build 20 frigates that are a smaller version of the Arleigh Burkes...

In a real war, the navy has no purpose. Eliminating all the ships is trivial. They are sitting ducks. Give me a million dollars, and it's trivial for me to destroy any US warship. All you need to take one out is an autonomous sub which is basically a torpedo.

We had two ships run into cargo ships in the last 5 years. This shouldn't even be possible, automated systems should have prevented it, but it happened. Our military knows that the navy is obsolete at this point. Perhaps subs still serve a purpose, but no surface ship does other than for quarters for the military when they are blowing up some 3rd world country to steal their shit.

Is this one of the ships they are donating to Ukraine?

Yeah, Chicoms are trying to play pscyh ops or pscyh warfare recently as far as setting up wooden props of navy ships in the desert.

I am not sure though, as if you spread out enough Arleigh Burke destroyers, it is hard to take them out especially if they are not sitting still.

Plus they have a lot of defensive capabilities let alone offer a lot such as missile defense, etc.
