Very interesting! In the late 90s when I was working on the human genome project (discovered lots of genes) I came across a set of our pheromone genes. It wasn't too difficult because we'd found them in rats, mice, dogs, gorilla, chimp etc. I just had to fish out the human versions and align them. That's a bit of an over simplification but that's generally it. They are also pretty small gpcrs (g-protein coupled receptors) if I recall.

Well, they all had frame shifts in them so they def didn't work in humans. For example if a working gene was composed of the dna sentence:

The dog chased the ball at the park.

And you delete a letter it becomes nonsense:

The dog casedt heb alla tthe park.

These copulins are something different I was not aware of!
