Savings are especially thin in California •  What our survey found is extremely shocking When it comes to saving money, Americans have gone from bad to worse, with Californians among the worst of them all, according to an August survey by the financial portal GoBankingRates.com of Los Angeles.

Assholes. No wonder we have such a huge trade deficit with China.
Maybe we have just gone from the inefficient days where we kept a large inventory of unspent dollars to a new model of on demand money production.

Hmmm I have NEVER used Uber Eats or any other service of the same ilk.

Is this a fact or could this even be somewhat close to fact?

Question: what is the age range of this poll?

It's a 9 yo necro-thread.

I hate to say it but this is pretty spot on.

I'd even say that one can make it a safer portfolio, with income buffering for cap gains/losses, since the average person goes only for the S&P500 which is now a 40% tech ticker symbol thanks to the Mag 7 mania.

Here's my dumb and simple for the masses portfolio ...

Energy (VDE) 15%
Tech (QQQ) 15% - tech is capped
Emerging Markets (VWO) 15%
US REITs (USRT) 15%
Small Cap/Russ 2K (IWM) 15%
Dow Jones (DIA) 15% - the Dow is mainly composed of 30 Blue Chips with much less tech exposure than the S&P500

Precious Metals:

Gold (GLD) 4%
Silver (SLV) 3%
Platinum(PPLT) 3%

I think this is true.

Maybe there should be some S&P(500 - 7) index.

Or call it S&P493
13   clambo   2025 Nov 20, 6:26pm

Why avoid those 7 companies?

Anyway, you can buy Vanguard Extended Market Index Fund in addition to the S&P 500 if you desire.

The essence of investing is mutual funds; it's fun to buy other things but not necessary.

I've prospered from those 69% who save no money; they obviously spend all of their money on shit like iPhones, so my shares of AAPL kicked ass.

Ha, I missed that.

The cost basis for Microstrategy's BTC is around $75,000 per Bitcoin. Microstrategy is down about 70% from its recent all time high.

Anyone but the dip today?

I don’t day trade. Too stressful and not profitable. I can’t handle that. Was lucky to be 50/50 right about dips.

Hooold! Hooold! NOW!

I'd like to see that broken down by race and sex.

Same here.
22   clambo   2025 Nov 21, 1:42pm

Apple is up about 2% today, in case anyone cares.
23   gabbar   2025 Nov 21, 1:54pm

Has anyone invested in VTSAX?
24   Maga_Chaos_Monkey   2025 Nov 21, 4:05pm

How about swing trading? Johnny Bravo has a great u tube channel about it. Entertaining guy.

Oh, and it works too.

That's basically all I do these days and otherwise stay out of the markets, for the reasons @fortwaynehatesrealtors stated.

Well mostly. Some equities and crypto. But mostly I'm in and out like a thief!
25   Maga_Chaos_Monkey   2025 Nov 21, 4:10pm

It's probably time for me to setup a mutual fund(s) and annuities.

But then I'd just feel old.
26   clambo   2025 Nov 21, 5:19pm

Gabbar, I own VTSAX.
This is one of my first stock mutual funds which I bought in 1993.
Later I sold a little bit of it and bought Vanguard Primecap. That fund was pretty great for a while.

what about Bitcoin ?

I figure 7% in Bitcoin ETF, 4% gold ETF, 4% silver ETF and 7% in oil / gas ETF

the rest in a balanced fund like Vanguard Lifestrategy Moderate Growth Fund
