Podesta has a early morning satanic "spirit dinner" to attend to.

Last time the Republicans had this much control ... was 1928. 1929 great depression, followed by the World Wars which have shaped the past two centuries.

Trump's legacy will be a disaster. I'll bet less popular than W by the time it is over.

612   indigenous   2016 Nov 8, 11:11pm

What is never talked about was that 1929 was preceded by very loose money policies.

That actual depression did not occur until FDR came to office.

Either way economics has little to do with the Prez. With the exception of FDR who fucked things up big time.

Trump's really a third party candidate who hijacked the voter base of a major party. His biggest chore is ahead, not behind him. Graham voted for Evan McMuffin, and Ryan is contesting Trump's traditional automatic leadership of the GOP as POTUS.

If you think economics didn't play into this election, you are crazy. History doesn't repeat itself, but it does rhyme. Give it 6 years. I see global conflict shadows all around us as the western nations isolate themselves and turn inward.

The Prez doesn't cause much of the economics. The results of the policies takes years which is why Obama is metaphorically being B slapped out of the white house

As the results of his policies are now coming to fruition or are now showing that they will not have a positive effect.

Yes, the incoming presidents inherit, in some ways, the economies of their predecessors. Like Obama inherited a crash, Trump now inherits a fragile stability.

Earlier today, I saw Broward have an "initial count". Then, it magically reset the count and it started a second time.

Some people are reporting Pennsylvania just dropped 10% in count total to 89%.

They could be going for it. I hope not.

Actually the futures are already recovering, down less than 3%. Will be like brexit.

639   turtledove   2016 Nov 9, 12:09am

Glad I waited up. Quite a day. Truly never thought I'd see the words "Donald Trump Elected President." I just kept thinking that the polls couldn't be THAT off. On my way home, I was thinking that we were about to elect our first woman president and tried to focus on her positive points. I believed the results would be closer than the polls suggested, but WOW!! He actually did it!

Anyway, I told you I was bad at predicting these kinds of things. My saying she would win, pretty much guaranteed the opposite would happen. So, for those who wanted him to win... you're welcome.

I think by now even die-hard Trump supporters are getting a little bit worried what it is they have done. Let's hope for the best. He can't be any worse than W, can he?

Totally agree. This country and the globe are in an economic shit storm, and it's going to take a lot of effort and time and cooperation to get us out of it. It's similar to Obama inheriting the Great Recession, except the Fed have already used most of the weapons in their arsenal to stave off economic contraction. This is the time for real, structural change...no other way out.

He's known for challenging the status quo, breaking significant new ground, and winning. I know you want a guarantee of success, but that's not the way life works. Every candidate is a risk...gotta do your best with the info you have, place your bets, and roll the dice. Hillary would be just more of the same.

647   justme   2016 Nov 9, 12:30am

About 1hr ago, the US stock index futures reversed course and are now down ONLY around 1.5% or so. Did Trump place a call to Janet Yellen at the FRB? I sure hope not. Or did she act alone? Or what?

Don't really care that much about the person (though what significant new ground he's broken or what history of winning he has is not apparent to me outside of a surprise election victory); it's the policies that they bring with them that concerns me.

716 comments so far in such a short period of time, and I bet the number of distinct users for this thread would be interesting too.
