I try not to buy too much 'stuff'. if everyone purchased like I do, china wouldn't have much. I try to keep shopping at target limited to household cleaners, toilet paper, bounty, love crunch. Almond milk. Trash bags.
I buy vegetables and meats from Whole Foods. Try to be local and seasonal and avoid
I do have an iPad and iPhone, if everyone in America shipped like me China would barely have leg to stand on.
I get more than half of my clothes tailored since most things don t fit me off rack and it's cost neutral in long run. Fabrics are rarely from china.
Also, I spend a lot of money on services and maybe the only other place where I have extensive Chinese components is my home. Maybe I should build a tiny home with reclaimed components
To reiterate, if everyone in America consumed like me, china wouldn't have money to buy houses in California or much of a job market. IOW I probably own a lot less stuff from China than you do, but to your point, most people I know mindlessly acquire stuff/junk and much of it comes from China
To point regarding foreign aid, I would support removing all foreign aid. But, objectively speaking, what percent of budget goes to foreign aid? Drop in bucket compared to welfare, which works as well as foreign aid or worse.
