Boot brand is forced to recall footwear after customers complain the soles are covered with inappropriate symbols

'There was an angle I didn't get to see when ordering my new work boots,' wrote user 'FRSHFSHFCKR' alongside the image which has been viewed on Imgur over two million times.

Conal International Trading Inc, the California-based company that sells the boot, said the symbols were unintentional, claiming it was a 'design flaw'.

E-commerce manager Anthony Nguyen told Daily Mail Online that they only became aware of the issue after seeing the Reddit post. He said they plan to recall the boots.

He said: 'That was totally something that wasn't intentional or anything like that. It's something that we're going to pull off the shelves obviously...It was obviously a design flaw.'

nthony said they will be speaking to their designers about how the error occurred.

He did not rule out that it may have been intended to portray the swastika according to its ancient meaning as a religious symbol for well-being used in Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism.

'Obviously that's something we have ask the designers. That symbol existed before the swastika in Buddhism,' he said.

Other customers have also shared their dissatisfaction online.

'Love these boots they are very comfortable after breaking in, would be five stars but there are swastikas on the bottom of the boots which I'm not a fan of,' Gloria Johnson wrote on Amazon.

Another customer said: 'The shoes seem quality, but the bottom of the shoe has about five tiny swastikas on it.'

'It may seem backward when looking at it, but the print that it leaves behind is definitely a swastika with the correct orientation. I have a hard time believing that this wasn't intentional,' wrote 'Snoozie' in response.

John Bikowitz disagreed, saying: 'It resembles more so the Buddhist swastika because of the direction. It is the wrong direction for the Nazi swastika. So, it is not as bad as you think.'
