There are only two things worth anything on Earth : natural resources and human labor. One of them is being devalued by technology. The other is being undervalued by human shortsightedness.

Africa could be one of the richest areas of the world, except for 1 major problem for humans who live there: sustainable agriculture. They have minerals and natural riches like almost nowhere else. The Middle East's resources are far more limited than Africa's.

There is nothing magical or special about European or North American cultures that have propelled us beyond others. We simply have had more, especially with regards to agriculture, domesticated animals, disease exposure, and subsequent resistance.
