My guess would be that's because they cater to people who want to bring their beer to the beach (unless you mean some other city under "beer capital of the world"). And kegs are stainless steel, not aluminum.

Actually illegal to drink at all beaches in SD county, I shit you not. Hasn't stopped us yet though, and we bring bottles more than cans. And yes, I suspected kegs are not aluminum, but when I've heard people talk about that same "metal taste", they don't seem to care what the metal is, or ever consider that kegs are also made of metal.
