Buzzfeed will cut roughly 250 jobs, or roughly 15% of its workforce, including jobs within its news division.

So beautiful to watch fake news get the same treatment as US Manufacturing. Time to retrain Propagandists. Perhaps Used Car Salesman?

No used car salesmen provide a legit niche in our economy.

Maybe gator bait?

Isn't "HuffPost Opinion Section" really just the entire Huff Post?
5   Heraclitusstudent   2019 Jan 24, 4:29pm

So de-industrialization is good?
Consolidation of media is good?

That's less propagandists? Why? You think Russia is going to pay less trolls to throw garbage over fence as a result?
What planet is that?

Aren't propagandists on the contrary supposed to be neutralized by a rich and fragmented media?
6   mell   2019 Jan 24, 4:47pm

It's def good to see fake news gone.

It's great! Why pay a millenial trust fund baby in Park Slope $100k to regurgitate bloviation from the DNC or Correct The Record?

People do that for free. I thought Moderate Democrats and "Real Anti-Trump Conservatives" were all about efficiency when blue-collar guys lose their jobs. Why not when the opinion section of HuffPo is unnecessary and inefficient?

It breaks the power of corporations and overmighty subjects like Soros and their Activist Groups a little bit.

This is what the internet was supposed to be about in the first place Problem is, the Commanding Heights Guided Democracy Folks can't stand it.

BTW, I registered for another twitter account and NOT ONE conservative follow was recommended to me when I selected "Politics". Vox AND Ezra Klein. PMSNBC AND Rachel Maddow. Barak Obama but NOT the Current POTUS. CNN. CNN en Espanol. But not even Fox News. Much less Coulter, Tucker or even Limbaugh. But Ezra Klein and Maddow were in the top 10. I even got both Maduro and Glaudius or whatever the new guy's name is.

But not the current POTUS, Fox, Limbaugh, anything, not even the lamest RINO.

No they don't. No one takes a week or two to check anything a little bit deeper. Bloggers are just quoting stuff.

The sense that there is anything real, or anyone that can be trusted is getting scarcer and scarcer.

Truth and trust are at the basis of civilization and they are being crushed a bit more every day.
If you're not worried about that, then I don't know what worries you.

Yessir. Absolutely amazing.

After years of hearing Liberals dismiss job losses among Middle America, it's delicious to see them get a taste of "Disruption". Karma and turnabout is fair play.

Why would people pay to hear relatively recent grads (past 10 years) regurgitate SJW/PoMo bullcrap from their BA Program in Gender Studies/English Lit?

Why not? How many semaphore or telegraph stations are in operation?

We don't have Priests reading the King or Pope's Declarations from the pulpit, either.

That is amusing after watching all the big news outlets, CNN, ABC Nightly News, etc., all run with the story that a Native American Vietnam War veteran was approached and mocked by disrespectful high school kids.

They've already destroyed themselves. It is time for the new to replace the failed old system.

Good, better than organized deception controlled by Globalist Elite. As for pure propaganda and angry tweets, consider the one posted above:

Yeah, this is the kind of measured, reasonable takes the HuffPo Opinion writers were providing.

Good, Diversity. People might have to weigh entirely different angles for a change - which is actually how it was before the 1960s when even small cities had 2-3 papers with wildly varying views.1960s-now was the aberration.

People do this when comparing car makes and models, laundry detergent, and now... articles.

The alt media does a MUCH better job, as far as commentary or op-ed goes. There are legit people in the intellectual dark web, for example, who try to give their best summary. I listen to 6 to 12 of these types from various perspectives, mostly right (larry elder) or left (dave rubin) leaning libertarian types. Some are more like libertarian professors (jordan peterson and Jonathan haidt, both left leaning if anything). Or just people who try to shoot it straight like joe rogan.

None if these people are journalists. As of yet I have not seen someone simply report the facts w no spin. I dont see that service anywhere. Perhaps that's a huge business plan waiting to spring into action. Justthefacts.com where we give you all facts, no spin. I like it

I agree the trend is worrisome. However, we have a hyper-local experiment in my municipality that seems to be going well (basically a "local paper" rebuilt from the bottom up for web distribution). It's supported by voluntary subscribers and ads. It recently raised $1million in capital from local investors through a Direct Public Offering. Sometimes their stories get picked up nationally and they've done award winning long form articles. They've been around for almost a decade and have earned my trust. I don't worry about them publishing "fake news". In the few times I've found an error in their reporting, I've been able to get a correction (or at the very least, a clarification). Not sure if this is the future, but it does give me hope.

Just like typists became obsolete three decades ago with the invention of previewing word-processors and IBM PC, just like "photo-journalists" became obsolete a decade ago when smart phones enabled every tom-dick-and-harry on the spot to take photos and video quickly, "journalists" as the retained spin-artists for gate-keeping publishing monopolies have also become obsolete with digital publishing technology unseating the gate-keepers from their near-monopoly.

There are plenty people with enough curiosity to investigate facts. The salaried "journalists" (and the editorial board overseeing them) were always about putting on a spin on issues and gate-keeping. Even if a young "journalist" started with a passion for truth, a mortgage would force him into toeing the party line, simply because the near-monopolies wouldn't hire him if he is kicked out at any one of the related shops for rebellion. Watergate reporting was a set-up by those who didn't like Nixon's policy of detente. The controlled media didn't even report on JFK's back problem or women problem, or FDR's leg problem or women problem, or LBJ's women problem, or Bush Sr's women problem.

Leaving the investigation to independents, instead of in the hands of payed pipers, would actually lead to closer proximation of the real truth.

There is no such thing as pure fact based reporting. Also I made that point already.

Uh yes it can be. This happened in retail over the 20th century, lots of smaller to mid-sized retail outlets who couldn't cut it disappeared, leaving competitive businesses.

Did prices skyrocket for consumer goods? Quite the opposite actually.
32   Goran_K   2019 Jan 25, 2:22pm

Also, who would hire anyone with "Huffington Post" on their resume? I'd specifically weed them out before they touched the first round of interviews.

It's absolutely diversity.

Having nothing but Marin and Westchester County Professional Class Raised Brown or Berkeley Graduates, all Feminists and indoctrinated into PoMo Intersectional Progressive Stack Theory, was not diversity.

Having everybody from Rural Black Working Class Christians to Russian IT Atheist Guys to A Retired Navy Officer from Minnesota reporting the news/giving opinions IS diversity.

Telling coal miners that their job is gone and they need to learn to code was fine, but telling useless "journalists" the same is now harassment.

The Idiots don't realize, they aren't needed any more. The Tech Companies can censor any opposition narrative they want and not face any legal recourse.
They now own information free and clear and outright. The only websites on the Internet not toeing the Liberal lie are now filtered as junk and fake news by Microsoft.

Why on Earth would George Soros continue to subsidize opinion departments for every Liberal rag when he now owns the Internet.

Dumb ass silly Commie Cunts, don't have a clue when they are just being Useful and when they are just being Idiots.

Sucks to be those pantloads.
40   Tenpoundbass   2019 Jan 28, 1:07pm

One simply does not learn to code.
