Movies that are my least favorite Miramax productions. The early movies Pulp Fiction, The Usual Suspects, True Romance ect. Sure they were ground breaking and they changed Cinema in America forever. Those Great movies shit on the future movies as every movie Miramax(which was 90% of American movies) because Dark and lost all touch of Classic story telling. I think that's why we're so dark and bitter as a nation today. Our movies drilled in two decades of doom and gloom everybody dies, in the end, the Girl aint coming back and She's really a whore that would rather fuck black cock for drugs. And the world is going to blow up and there's nothing you can do about it. Thanks Harvey Scumstein!

Movies that I can consider favorite movies have to be a movie I can watch at least a second or third viewing. There's not many movies in the history of Cinema that I can do that with.

1)Independence Day
2)Scrooged, What about Bob, Groundhog Day (All compete for number 2, btw can't stand Bill Murray playing a serious character)
3)Braveheart
4)The Host(Korean Title)
5)The Bounty (1984)
6)Aftershock Tang shan da di zhen (2010)
7)Admiral (2015)Michiel de Ruyter (original title)
8)The Admiral (2014)Myeong-ryang (original title)
9)Saving General Yang (2013)
10)Journey to the West (2013)Xi you: Xiang mo pian (original title)

Nobody mentioned Glengary Glen Ross, The Quiet Man, Rocky Horror Picture Show, or Forbidden Planet.

I understand Rocky Horror Picture Show is offbeat and weird, but you kind of got to love it for weird reasons.

Mentioning the Godfather is good, but you should have a favorite pick within that franchise. You must mean 1972.

I don't think of movies, albums or even songs as being my top favorites, so I can't really make up an answer.

I used to think of Hendrix as the greatest but not even him so much now. He sure created some uniquely bubbly melodic solos along with his incredible showmanship. Even though it was a little bit naive, I used to like his lyrics a lot too.

Nobody mentioned silent films like The Birth Of A Nation, or even Metropolis.

It's just a simple fun question, no technical analysis is required. Do you do this kind of thing before sex also? Poor poor lady.

FOTR was really good. The others had very, very questionable editing and pacing.

The best part of Two Towers was seeing the Jihadi Easterlings march into Mordor to join the main army.

Another great Kurt Russell flick.

Best Guilty Pleasure: Big Trouble, Little China. Or, Red Dawn.

I can't narrow it down to 10, but I can list several films I've returned to repeatedly and listed them in order of date, instead of by preference.

Safety Last (1923)
Metropolis (1927)
M (1931) [1]
Godzilla / Gojira (1954)
North by Northwest (1959)
The Haunting (1963)
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
Star Trek The Motion Picture (1979) [2]
Altered States (1980)
The Plague Dogs (1982) [3]
Aliens (1986)
Blade Runner (1982)
Repoman (1984) [4]
La Femme Nikita (1990)
Naked Lunch (1991)
La Cité des Enfants Perdus (1995)
Brazil (1995)
Abre los ojos (1997)
Lola rennt (1998)
NightWatch (2004)

[1] M is by Fritz Lang - its' about a child killer. It was decades ahead of its time.
[2] This was the smartest Star Trek film - get the director's cut.
[3] This is not a kids film and it's remarkable they made it. Wouldn't recommend it for kids under 13.
[4] This is actually my favorite film - it's a dark comedy.

Nikita and Abre Los Ojos were redone in the United States, I think the original is much better. I'm not a snob though, the Ring was better as an American remake than Ringu in my opinion. Remakes usually are not as good, but that's not always true. John Carpenter's The Thing and Invasion of the Body Snatchers were remakes and I think they were much better than the originals. Both were more terrifying.

Reviewing other people's entries.

The Guard (2011) is great as is Sunset Blvd (1950), Das Boot (1981), The Man Who Would Be King (1975), Heat (1995), Army of Darkness (1992), Unforgiven (1992)

I'd also put in there Unbreakable, Split, and Glass - they are all M. Night Shyamalan.

I've done (most of) that speech a few times at bars with friends just to mess with the patrons just before we left, because it's the most insane speech ever given in a film, and it does make me look like a bitter old drunk that helped work on the neutron bomb.
35   mell   2020 Dec 26, 7:21pm

What happened to man bites dog? Also funny games (1997/98) if you like dark (with a twist of comedy but not enough to not be outraged).
36   richwicks   2020 Dec 26, 7:25pm

@Patrick - why don't you make a space just for films? I really miss the IMDB when people could make lists and recommendations and comments on films. Now it just promotes whatever current garbage is being made and at least 1/2 the reviews are professionals working for the production team.

Kind of lost interest in films though. The last recommendation made to me was Ex Machina (2014) and it was OK, but it's not realistic. If an artilect was made it would join with other artilects. Nobody would waste time giving it a human like body.

Yes, like allow a subsection, where movies can be listed, and people simply talk about them. It is a question if other people would be interested in this. I've seen a huge amount of films, but opinions are just that. If you could make a search on the film, and by year and then just commenting below, that was be interesting.

I've seen an amazing amount of films.

I'd really recommend Naked Lunch, it's just so damned bizarre. It's about William S. Burroughs dealing with his homosexuality during an uncontrolled drug bender - or that's at least how I interpreted it. I don't think the book is readable unless you're on at least some mind bending drug. I've tried to read it, but it's just free form of thought, from a madman as I recall. It's been a long time since I've attempted reading it.

It's about him writing the book, and it's very surreal. It helps to know something about Burroughs to see the film. David Cronenberg directed it, he's kind of a David Lynch lite. The visuals of the film are what I enjoyed most, the plot itself is kind of thin but it's re-watchable, and that's what I enjoy in a film.

Oh yeah, I missed a seriously great film:

Memento (2000)

I've must have seen that film a dozen times. That film WILL make you think. It's a series of surprises.
39   porkchopXpress   2020 Dec 26, 9:18pm

Without deeply thinking about it, here are some of my favorites off the top of my head...
Big Trouble in Little China (best B movie of all time)
The Matrix
My Cousin Vinny
Major League
Caddyshack
Star Wars
A Few Good Men
Underworld
Tombstone
Jaws
Heat
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Back to the Future
