in middle or late 90's and there was shit on sidewalk near Moscone(?) center already.

I was there in 1991 and wanted to check out the Haight-Ashbury district. Didn't SEE poop but smelled it, Saw pisses being taken in broad daylight, no effort to be discreet about it either. There were young panhandlers slouched across the sidewalk demanding in aggressive tones that people stepping over them give them money.

People act like it's a brand new phenomenon, and attribute it to California "liberal" policies. Reality is, climate and opportunity makes people flock here and stay including bums.

We can do emojis here now???

Yes, any valid UTF-8 character should work since I made the database accept them instead of being limited to just ASCII text.

Did you move to Texas?

My wife and I been going back and forth on moving to Indiana, but it’s hard because we would have to change a lot, and my business is local.

Hi Goran_P: I think you mentioned on a thread a while ago that you left California.

Would you mind sharing a report card with us about your relocation? Maybe you can share about quality of life changes good or bad for your immediate family members. Thanks!

Alright, here's my bird's eye view answer to your question.

Best Quality of life changes:
- Lower taxes, Less fear of more: One of the things I love about not living next to a coast. I never have to worry about some mega bond being floated to support some entitlement program or union pensions that are out of control. That was the thing I hate about California. Every year, your county or even at the state level, Democrats would always put some super bond to vote, and you knew it was going to pass. Whether it was BART, or another school district levy, it always passed.

- Less crowds: One of the things ...

That's partly true, but what has changed is that the cops won't lift a finger now due to leftoid policies, even on violent crime, shoplifting below $950 won't get prosecuted etc. etc. You always had smelling hippies and occasional aggressive panhandlers, but they would be dealt with when they overstepped the line and get locked up, or the neighbors would take care of it. Also Haight Ashbury is now everywhere whereas back then it was one of the only two smelly districts (HA and Tenderloin).

I was banging a chick who lived on the corner of Haight and Masonic 15 years ago. Block or two down from Ashbury if I recall. 2nd floor right over some store right on the corner. The living room was one of those rounded corner rooms with great people watching windows. Apparently back in the day it was the free clinic but early 2000s it was a 2 bedroom condo.

During the week that area was clean/quiet/nothing but techies who parked and went inside their digs. Only on the weekends did the freaks show up .. from all over other places in the bay area.

Weather is just a part of it, the other part is insane policies. In TX, both San Antonio and Austin are D, but SA has no homeless problem while Austin does. Difference is that SA is run by relatively rational Hispanic D's which are kinda like Blue Dog D's of past, while Austin is run by usual, CA-style self-hating insane white libruls.
