The photograph at the top of the story is in typical muddy, brownish washed out 70's "color", caused by the lack of silver nitrate which stabilizes color. It was a casualty as were many other commodities, of the shortages caused by Wage and Price Controls in the early 70's that caused all kinds of distortions in the market that didn't allow producers to recover their costs. They worked so poorly, the government doubled down and went to Phase II in late '72, then abandoned them in '73. From them on, prices exploded at double digit rates for most of the decade exacerbated by the oil embargo.
