Ooh Blob and Ghostly Aliens, I always liked those in Star Trek, because it took Theremin musak to sell it.
Kind of the way Steven Spielberg always sold natural phenomena with a fog machine and blue light.
You can't create that kind of campy cheesy genuineness in special effects using 3D animation.
It doesn't have to be aliens OR God. It could simply be an as yet undiscovered property of nature or physics that trends toward more rapidly evolving organized forms, perhaps jellies which are antennae to the universe.
