People who are outside of a well established norm will produce less children, and will end up eliminating themselves from future generations. It just won't correct itself within our lifetimes.
I used to be an ASTRINGENT atheist, but I also knew atheists had less children than religious people. I used to worry that all the atheists would die out. Well, they will in time, and given what sort of society we'd end up with (it's pretty clearly evident what the consequences would be to me now) if everybody was atheist, I no longer worry about atheists dying out, I worry about the religious being exterminated. There's never been a society that was atheistic. I'm the odd man out, well, so be it.
I can remain objective and also, I can change as I learn more. Compulsory atheism would be actually worse than compulsory religion.
