Trump is 100% right to suspend H1-B, H2-B, J, and L visas

https://dailycaller.com/2020/06/29/tragesser-opponents-argue-trump-ban-on-foreign-guest-workers-will-cripple-economy-heres-why-they-are-wrong/

On June 22, President Trump signed an executive order suspending several temporary foreign guest worker programs in an effort to create economic opportunities for displaced Americans who lost their jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the president’s clearly stated intentions, the order received immediate critical scrutiny. Many argued it would reduce skilled workers, since Americans do not offer the same skill sets as those abroad. This could not be farther from the truth — the truth is that America offers a robust work force that should be prioritized during an unprecedented economic crisis, and the president’s order could not have come at a better time.

The president’s executive order simply prioritizes millions of unemployed Americans who offer the same, if not arguably better, skillsets than workers abroad. The proclamation suspends several foreign visas categories — including the H1-B, H2-B, J, and L visas — and range from high skilled positions in the tech industry to lower skilled positions in the hospitality industry. The notion that businesses cannot find Americans who can fill in for these positions is comical. ...

Foreign labor, especially during a global pandemic, brings economic consequences —and this idea is far from being fringe. Americans have made clear that competition from foreign labor at a time of record unemployment during the COVID-19 pandemic warrants immigration restrictions. Curtailing immigration and guest worker admissions is supported by 79 percent of the American public and cuts across all party, ideological, and demographic lines. In other recent polling, strong majorities of voters in ten battleground states agreed that “limiting admission of new immigrants and guest workers will improve the chances of laid-off American workers being rehired. ...

The corporate business lobby has painted a distorted image that only further reinforces their greed and self-interest. Americans know they boast the skills to replace most foreign guest labor and are hungry for better economic opportunities during an unprecedented economic crisis that shows no sign of abating soon.”

The whole point of all these programs is prevent Americans from being paid well so that stockholders can take all those savings as profit.

There is no other reason they exist. It is pure political corruption.

71% of Silicon Valley is H1B's doing easy ordinary work that most Americans could do, like QA. Tech shareholders are the beneficiaries of these programs, at the expense of American workers' wages.

BLM and the protesters should be egging the houses of the CEOs of Apple, Facebook, Google, and Amazon. They are the enemies of fair wages for US tech workers, and they contribute exclusively to Democrats in order to keep US citizens poor.

Trump is right, and the Democrats on the take from tech CEOs are wrong.

Please share this with friends.

Big Tech: "Wear your mask! Stay Home! But fly in 100k's of people to work in our offices from Asia. RIGHT NOW! NO DELAY! "

A friend working in a big tech company reported that the mad push to quickly roll everybody through performance review process by the end of this month (usually a precursor for big layoffs) has been suddenly put on hold "until further notice". They employ shitload of H1Bs, of course.

A lot of employers are going to be seriously butt hurt.

Mostly Apple, Google, and Facebook execs.

They will have to pay Americans American wages.

Tech was never Trump's friend in the least, so he loses nothing by this, and gains votes.

The whole point of this shit is to ensure wages and working conditions in the US revert to the global mean. People like Bezos and Gates think it's racist that Americans have better quality of life than Indians or Chinese people do, and so they see this as social justice (that just so happens to make them richer and further cements their control).

Trump understands that American workers are being displaced by foreigners, which benefits those who hire them (Hewlett Packard) and nobody else.

The law of supply and demand applies to labor.

Even my friend who is a high school graduate understands this. She knows that all of the Haitians at her workplace keep her wages down.

The whole foreign worker visa program is bullshit, it’s abused and it hurts Americans.

Don't forget Disney, who should be prosecuted for blatant HxB abuse. Trump's reining in of the HxB will hurt Disney, which is why Disney owned ABC starts each Nights News broadcast with a 10 min anti-Trump rant.

Corporations want cheap labor. They’ll fuck Americans to get it. Cheap foreigners is an easy way to get that.

Any one know what H1 are being requested by category?

If they are paying ~20k n processing work, that tells me job is in demand.

People can target education and aim for those jobs.

Yes, and the same mechanism explains most of the hate for Trump in the media.

Corporations were making bank by stiffing working wages in all kinds of ways.

Now Trump is interfering with that, giving the wages back to the workers, which helps not only them, but helps the economy reach new record heights.

What we had was corrupt capital, mostly Democrats but also many Republicans, stealing from workers and the economy. Trillions of dollars.

They are angry that they cannot continue to suck worker blood under Trump. Worker blood must be delicious.

Perot made dis-incentivizing offshoring a part of his platform when it came to NAFTA. Apparently he and his family got death threats and he dropped out of the race. I don't see this as a coincidence. There is a LOT of money on the line here for large corporations, and they'll do anything to keep it flowing, even if it means destroying the country.

Not just wages are going down: so is whatever is left of American culture.

The moratorium only applies to issuing new H1Bs, not people who currently are here and working under an existing H1B. So I don't see the logic you describe in what is going on with your company as it pertains to H1Bs.

H1B is good for 3 years with possible extension for another 3. At any moment there are shitload of people nearing the end of their visa and needing a new one.

Extending visas is not the same as issuing new ones to people in India. That is what is being stopped.

You can extend it only once (unless GC app is filed). It means that many H1-B workers have an expiration date and will have to be replaced by fresh H1-B meat. Which has just became impossible.

We need to get this fixed during Trump's second term.
