In my opinion, it’s a colossal pump-and-dump scheme, the likes of which the world has never seen. In a pump-and-dump game, promoters “pump” up the price of a security creating a speculative frenzy, then “dump” some of their holdings at artificially high prices. And some cryptocurrencies are pure frauds. Ernst & Young estimates that 10 percent of the money raised for initial coin offerings has been stolen.

The losers are ill-informed buyers caught up in the spiral of greed. The result is a massive transfer of wealth from ordinary families to internet promoters. And “massive” is a massive understatement — 1,500 different cryptocurrencies now register over $300 billion of “value.”

One of the most common Bitcoin email scams is sextortion, which can come in multiple forms. The premise of this scam is that the scammers claim to have video or images of you during intimate moments, as well as access to your friends' and family's contact information. If you don't pay the requested amount of Bitcoin to the scammers, they threaten that they will release those images to your contacts or post them online.

What if I want the scammer to release video of me masturbating in a Santa suit while sniffing my wife's panties? Do I just neglect to pay the ransom?

I don't feel sorry for the people that fall for these scams. All you need to do is say:

"I'll pay you double if you can name 2 of my contacts".

Another thing - who the fuck cares about you having sex? Shit, if I honestly got a video of my friend in a bunny suit fucking a pumpkin I'd just be like "whatever, his life".

But think about Grandma? The bunny video could kill her with a heart attack faster than not wearing a mask will kill your grandpa.

Nice! Thanks for sharing @Cash.
Demand for crypto and mining is accelerating. Exciting times!

Bitcoin is very wasteful of energy
770   Onvacation   2021 Jan 31, 7:57am

NEW: Study reveals Bitcoin's electricity consumption is underestimated and finds the network "represents close to half of the current global data centre electricity use" (August 2020).

As you can see crypto is extremely wasteful and not environmentally friendly.

Fully aware. I'm sure the nuke plants are all above board too... That was kind of my point. Being 2 generations removed and dealing with them frequently, they're not the most honest people. That's all. But neither are crypto bugs, so maybe it's a marriage made in heaven?

Yes. I'm not super interested in it to be honest, but I believe my grandfather came over from Poland. May have been great grandfather. My grandma was already here. So my personal mutt mix has some Lithuanian and I also believe a touch of Irish as well. I'd have to ask my sister as I think she did one of those Ancestry or 23 and me (can't remember what it's called) tests.

My experience with most Eastern Euros was through my parents business when I'd give them some help on weekends. Some were really great people and nice for sure. I don't want to give the business away so as to not dox myself, but it wasn't a bar. Most of them simply don't listen or follow rules though. Lots of frustrations when there were big groups and the occasional call to the police. I find that they will push everything to the limit and are either stupid or play the role of stupid as an act extremely well.

I've also worked with Ukranian mafia in Chicago real estate. It's been 10 years now or so since I've seen the guy and his son. They had to be top 3 in however their organization works in the mob, at least for the region. Maybe top. I'm sure there were still higher ups back in Ukraine funneling them cash as well.

They were building completely decked out condos in average neighborhoods. There was almost no way they were turning a profit, even buying some of the finishes at discount. I never witnessed it my self, but there was almost certainly mortgage fraud rampant. When all the buyers of dozens (that we knew about) of condos were all 24 year Ukranian dudes that look like they cannot even read or write, something is up. I think most would buy and just stop making payments and would get a kickback for doing so. Probably some sort of laundering scheme for sure.

All groups can be sketchy for sure from anywhere in the world obviously. I've just experienced some shady people from Eastern Europe and Russia as well. Polish seem to be the best of that group, but I've still experienced some bad apples from there as well.
