A lot of science fiction - at least good science fiction - is prophetic. The Wanting Seed was written in 1962. You (and I) are too young to remember this directly, but in the 1950's and 60's there was a scare about over-population in the future. This is still promoted to this day. It's a bit like global warming is that it's always in the future but never comes to fruition and many things are blamed on it.

Remember Sally Struthers and the starving kids of Ethiopia back in the 1980s? I do - we were led to believe that was happening due to a famine. Well, it wasn't because of a famine, there was a war between Eritrea and Ethiopia. I was just a kid then, but I distinctly remember that the strive was being caused because of a lack of resources and war was NEVER mentioned.

I read an account of grain shipped to help starving some Somalis (I think). Some ethnic group there was starving exactly because they were on the losing end of a war. The grain was all confiscated at the entry port and sold there to raise money to buy weapons which made the winning side yet stronger.

So in that case "aid" to starving people actually caused more of them to starve.

They wanted everybody to see this photo, because they claimed it made Glenn Youngkin look bad. But within hours, everybody started laughing at them because this was an obvious hoax, and either they were part of it or they fell for it. Either way, it’s not the sort of thing a political campaign does when they think they’re winning.
