and then pay back the loan with devalued dollars, keeping the difference. That became the philosophy towards the end of the 1970's hyperinflation when it was decided it was here to stay and became factored into every financial decision. It made all the sense in the world to buy on credit because inflation would bail you out. MasterCard came out in 1978. In Robt. J. Samuelson's book The Great Inflation and its Aftermath, he tells the tragic story of some farmers who owned huge ranches which had been in the family for decades. They took out huge second mortgages counting on inflation to save them. After all, gold was never going to be less than $800 an ounce, such was the belief of the times--$3,000 in today's money. When inflation was finally tamed by 1983 with double digit interest rates, they were wiped out and two or three of them committed suicide.
Gold doesn't seem to be moving with inflation.
Have you noticed shortages?

So the wife asked me if I would take a ride with her to Ikea the other day, to pick up a chest of drawers for a room she redecorated.
When we got there there were several displays, that had a faux brick background, she pointed out that the resin chairs, stools, baskets, totes and bins they had set up. Looked like typical third world living room in Lima Peru. Shit you can get at the Haitian owned booths in a Miami flea market. We were both perplexed, nobody in their right mind would decorate like that in a first world country.
Don't believe Yahoo news, a voice of the oligarchy.
Went to look for sofa sleeper for spare room, none in stock and 2 to 4 month wait at two different furniture stores.

From a reader:
I was interested in getting a phone with good privacy, the Librem, but they can't say when it will be available because they can't get parts.
My laptop is dying too, and I looked into the Dell XPS 13, but guess what? Six week lead time because of supply chain issues, and they won't even commit to six weeks.
