From a reader:

I've commented to a few others about my perceptions, exactly the same as in the article above.

This is a major reason I suspect that your "Wuhan" virus is my "Ft Detrick" virus -- that the US bioweapons people created it and released it overseas to make it look like it came from there, to cover the criminal failure and looting of our one-percenters, who have wrecked our economy with their policies of peasant labor in across the Rio Grande, skilled labor deported overseas, create a financialization economy to replace our once-unrivaled manufacturing economy, no taxes or penalties for hi-tech, banks, wall street etc.

I was interested in getting a phone with good privacy, the Librem, but they can't say when it will be available because they can't get parts.

My laptop is dying too, and I looked into the Dell XPS 13, but guess what? Six week lead time because of supply chain issues, and they won't even commit to six weeks.

Don't believe Yahoo news, a voice of the oligarchy.

So the wife asked me if I would take a ride with her to Ikea the other day, to pick up a chest of drawers for a room she redecorated.

When we got there there were several displays, that had a faux brick background, she pointed out that the resin chairs, stools, baskets, totes and bins they had set up. Looked like typical third world living room in Lima Peru. Shit you can get at the Haitian owned booths in a Miami flea market. We were both perplexed, nobody in their right mind would decorate like that in a first world country.

Went to look for sofa sleeper for spare room, none in stock and 2 to 4 month wait at two different furniture stores.

gold was never going to be less than $800 an ounce, such was the belief of the times

This is actually not the full story for gold.

For the most part, prior to that 1978 parabolic move, gold was experiencing a lot of bullishness as support/resistance zones from $80 to $190 were being continually tested. But then, at the $190/oz mark in '78, it broke into a speculative mania which drove the price to $800+/oz, for a year and a half, before the crash.

Yet, despite the 20 year bear market which followed, it never breached $200/oz ever again, despite the fact that all of the 90s was the 'Strong Dollar' era.

So if this were to happen again (meaning a parabolic price move), realize, that last major support area from the 2000s run, $1100 to $1300/oz, will hold.

Time to find some good used American-made furniture from the 1950's - 1970's - Stickley, Baker, Ethan Allen, etc. With a bit of TLC, it could be a great addition. These items are largely finished in lacquer/shellac and joined with hide glue. This means that they are completely restorable - you just have to re-amalgamate the finish and heat/restore the glue joints.

One way I know it's Oligarchy, is that there are/were competitiors to Google that could have easily clawed back market share by being Patriotic and/or Liberty Based.

They haven't.

Look for the solid pine stuff there and finish it yourself.

Do they have Amish furniture stores in your area? I have no idea if that type of thing is nationwide.

That is what Wife's Facebook Small Lib Arts College Friends are repeating as NPC hotspots.

Today I tried to buy toothpicks at Safeway, but they were out.

Then I tried to buy a Ritter chocolate bar at TJ, but they were out.

I found toothpicks at Walgreens, but there are lots of noticeable gaps on the shelves there.

This just in! College students newly out of the house but still supported by parents/student loans for a few more years before a "real job" harbor naive optimism toward the world's hardships and problems!

In Houston you go to craigslist transactions heavily armed. Nothing against that but I am too old for shootouts
