Recall elections have different rules than traditional elections, as CalMatters pointed out earlier this year. Even if Newsom gets more votes than his challengers, he could still lose his job.

In recall elections, voters are first asked whether they would like to get rid of the incumbent. The next part is selecting a replacement from the list of challengers. Newsom, the incumbent, would not be on the list.

If the "yes" vote gets more than 50% of votes, whichever challenger comes in first on the replacement list is immediately hired as the state's new governor. The challenger doesn't need to get more than 50% of the vote, they just need to come in first from the list of replacements.

Table in mercury shows 37k deaths due to other but most of the other conditions are the same or lower. People who were sick were avoiding the hospital. strokes heart attacks etc are roughly unchanged.

Then it says suicides are Down 15%. This almost certainly can’t be true.

Covid makes up a good chunk of the excess deaths but it isn’t 90-95% of excess deaths.

Absolute excess mortalities makes sense but the rate of mortalities in California is almost certainly in the lowest quintile. The healthcare system in ca was less stressed than NY or NJ and it isn’t even close.

Pure speculation since I haven’t seen the numbers in excess deaths but I would guess California is in the lowest decile as it pertains to death rate or excess dear rate.

California would have more infected and dead simply because of its population. I would expect the to be higher than any other state basically.
