I'm not very religious, but I think there is a ton of solid advice in the bible. For example:

The interesting thing about this is that it should be totally fine to do so for satire, carnival etc. But they foresaw the forces that will take the "joke" aspect out of this obvious fun pastime and punish those who will not take the mentally deranged seriously. Which then becomes and act of evil when treated as normal. Reminds me of the Name of the Rose where William von Baskerville makes the rational argument to Jorge that fun and jokes and laughter are a good part of humanity but Jorge is not having it.
