Facemasks in the COVID-19 era: A health hypothesis
Baruch Vainshelboim⁎

Abstract
Many countries across the globe utilized medical and non-medical facemasks as non-pharmaceutical intervention for reducing the transmission and infectivity of coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19). Although, scientific evidence supporting facemasks’ efficacy is lacking, adverse physiological, psychological and health effects are established. Is has been hypothesized that facemasks have compromised safety and efficacy profile and should be avoided from use. The current article comprehensively summarizes scientific evidences with respect to wearing facemasks in the COVID-19 era, providing prosper information for public health and decisions making. ...

Conclusion
The existing scientific evidences challenge the safety and efficacy of wearing facemask as preventive intervention for COVID-19. The data suggest that both medical and non-medical facemasks are ineffective to block human-to-human transmission of viral and infectious disease such SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19, supporting against the usage of facemasks. Wearing facemasks has been demonstrated to have substantial adverse physiological and psychological effects. These include hypoxia, hypercapnia, shortness of breath, increased acidity and toxicity, activation of fear and stress response, rise in stress hormones, immunosuppression, fatigue, headaches, decline in cognitive performance, predisposition for viral and infectious illnesses, chronic stress, anxiety and depression. Long-term consequences of wearing facemask can cause health deterioration, developing and progression of chronic diseases and premature death. Governments, policy makers and health organizations should utilize prosper and scientific evidence-based approach with respect to wearing facemasks, when the latter is considered as preventive intervention for public health.

Up until now, there has been no comprehensive investigation as to the adverse health effects masks can cause. The aim was to find, test, evaluate and compile scientifically proven related side effects of wearing masks. For a quantitative evaluation, 44 mostly experimental studies were referenced, and for a substantive evaluation, 65 publications were found. The literature revealed relevant adverse effects of masks in numerous disciplines. In this paper, we refer to the psychological and physical deterioration as well as multiple symptoms described because of their consistent, recurrent and uniform presentation from different disciplines as a Mask-Induced Exhaustion Syndrome (MIES). We objectified evaluation evidenced changes in respiratory physiology of mask wearers with significant correlation of O2 drop and fatigue (p < 0.05), a clustered co-occurrence of respiratory impairment and O2 drop (67%), N95 mask and CO2 rise (82%), N95 mask and O2 drop (72%), N95 mask and headache (60%), respiratory impairment and temperature rise (88%), but also temperature rise and moisture (100%) under the masks. Extended mask-wearing by the general population could lead to relevant effects and consequences in many medical fields.

Was around Harrisburg PA yesterday at the RV show and later at a restaurant. Both places were crowded as fuck. Almost nobody wearing a mask at the RV show. Absolutely nobody at Texas Roadhouse wearing a mask, not even the employees! I don't see that where I live.

And if you were wondering, there was no shortage of RV's at the show. They were also packed in like proverbial sardines. It was really hot outside (as if it were July) and with all the RV awnings out it was easy enough to stay in the shade most of the time.

Masking is alive and well in NYC, unfortunately. I feel that all the mandatory signage keeps people afraid of the virus even when they shouldn't be. I'm starting to see "How To Wear Two Mask" signs now.

I just realized that I don't even own a mask. Feels like I'm living in a parallel dimension to these maskers.

I've never been asked to wear a mask in a supermarket. I should have been more clear. I feel that businesses are required to have a sign that says "Please wear a mask" but it's not lawfully required to actually wear one. Citizens in NYC keep confusing these CDC recommendations with laws and it simply isn't the case from my experience. That or no one cares. The businesses I've frequented for decades don't care that I'm not wearing a mask. I don't wear a mask on the NYC subway, and I commute multiple times a day. I've ridden the trains next to MTA employees and the NYPD they simply don't care. There's a small percentage of folks like me that just don't wear masks anywhere, because they figured out that nobody will do anything. I'm always prepared to just turn around and leave if I'm asked to wear one, but it never happens.

The worst that can happen is middle aged to elderly women give me dirty looks. I was pretty adjusted to that before COVID. Any business that would force me to wear a mask just won't get my business.

Restaurants are a different story. We almost never dined out at restaurants before any of this passport stuff unless it was a very special occasion. When I order out for food, it's usually from places that barely had dining in space to begin with. Spending more than ten dollars for a hot meal would give me a damn heart attack anyway, so if I need a fast bite I go to one of our many food carts.
228   DhammaStep   2021 Oct 2, 7:13am

Just got home from a supermarket excursion so I did an unofficial count:

3 maskless customers (including myself)
2 maskless employees
The checkout girl wasn't wearing her mask over her nose
5 masked customers
3 masked employees
1 double masked irritable upper middle aged woman

And of course I forgot the damn vegetable broth.

Here in northern Virginia (I live about 1 mile from CIA headquarters...Langley Va.) which is deep blue. I never wore a mask anywhere. Was only asked to leave 2 places. We never did go out to eat much before covid. Mostly takeout so not going to restaurants didn't affect us much. I went in to grocery stores, my local hardware store, convenience stores, drug stores without any problems at all. I would always pick up our to go food without a mask. If they tried to enforce the mask bullshit I simply asked them if they wanted me to pay for my food order or if they wanted to lose even more money than they already have. Worked every time.

In St Thomas/John right now. Super strict from last year. Beaches are fine. Restaurants are crazy. I guess local gov has roaming Covid brigades. Talked with the bartender at length and they legit walk down the beach and sneak on the resort to catch them doing something “wrong.”

I love this place, but not digging the mask. I’ll wear the neck gaiter for sun protection, but getting annoyed having to mask up for no reason. Having fun, but not the same as the last two years. Boat day today. Should get my annual Epstein Island photo. Insomnia sucks. Need to get back to sleep.

Was there last month and for Spring Break this year. Love me some Florida, but there’s not a single beach that touches those of St John and a few on St Thomas.

Panhandle FL does have the best sand I’ve personally experienced. But the water, reefs and underwater wildlife can’t be beat in USVI versus mainland US. Between vacation as a child till now, I’ve probably lived close to 2 years in FL. So we switched it up and love it besides this Covid BS
