Multiculturalists everywhere are high-fiving each other, because to modern progressivism, Columbus is a villain of the highest order. To hear them tell the story, he was the quintessential straight "white" male, brimming with privilege and wealth, who used and abused BIPOC bodies in an orgy of death he unleashed across two continents. It doesn't matter how detached from reality portions of that narrative are – the mob has convinced themselves it's true.

Who in their right mind wants to get steamrolled by that cancel machine in order to stick up for a famous boat captain who died over five centuries ago? The majority of sane people left in our society have judiciously opted to pick their battles with the Twitter-driven outrage machine. As long as they still get that Monday off from work, they really don't care whose name is attached to it.

I get that. But I also can't help but crack up at the moral pomposity of the progressive justice brigade congratulating themselves right now. They are so concerned about the "problematic" sins of Columbus that they replace him with "indigenous" people – a group whose legacy includes more misogyny, sexual assault, human and child sacrifice, cannibalism, and unhinged violence than Christopher and his band of merry men could have committed in 1,000 lifetimes.

Start in Central America, the stomping grounds of Columbus and his fellow Spaniards. Just before the arrival of the "barbaric" Europeans, those distinguished indigenous tribes were up to many outrageous things.

Aztec priests, using razor-sharp obsidian blades, sliced open the chests of sacrificial victims and offered their still-beating hearts to the gods. They then tossed the victims' lifeless bodies down the steps of the towering Templo Mayor.

That's not exactly "singing with all the voices of the mountain" and painting "with the colors of the wind."

Funny, but:

1. American Indians were continuously invading each other's territory long before Europeans arrived.
2. American Indians didn't have paper then, but now they do, as well as a thousand other conveniences, thanks to Europeans.

Ww1 ,ww2, French vs British, eu has more wars than anyone. Should they be considered savages n be removed?

Eu didn't have paper either or gun powder, it was created in china. India had books with 100 000 lines 3000 years ago. Eu got Arabic numbers and 0 from Asia. Doesn't mean you kick people out of their land by killing with diseases , or keep moving them till most of them die of starvation.

killing with diseases

There was no deliberate attempt to kill the Indians with the diseases. The "smallpox blankets" hoax by U. Michigan professor Ward Churchill simply got repeated without anyone checking whether it was true.

But it was true that vast numbers of Indians died from diseases they had no immunity to, making an already thin population much thinner.

There are now slightly more Indians in the US than there were at first contact, but it still isn't many.

And you have a point about displacement. Lots of Indians were herded into reservations. But they were not entirely innocent either.

The most recent documented massacre of white settlers by Native Americans occurred on February 26, 1911, near Winnemucca, Nevada, known as the Shoshone Mike Massacre, where a posse killed Shoshone leader Mike Daggett and seven others, including women and children, after a confrontation stemming from cattle theft. This event is often overlooked, as many assume the last major massacre was at Wounded Knee in 1890.

ST. PAUL, Minn., Saturday, Aug. 23.

Parties from the Minnesota River reached here last sight. They state that scouts estimate the number of whites already killed by the Sioux at 500.

This opinion is based on the number of bodies discovered strewn along the road and by trails of blood.

And apparently much more DNA by mass given lots of American's have Am Indian DNA in them and may not even know anything about it. Except for Pocahontas who currently lives in Massachusetts. She knows.

It was a mostly open continent due to the disease issue Patrick described. I've even heard theories that the reason there were so many buffalo was because the diseases killed so many humans off in the 1st 100 years after contact that there wasn't really many people around to hunt them.

The blankets thing is 110% garbage.

Dead Sailors in the Napoleonic Era had their clothes, blankets, etc auctioned off and put aside for the next of kin. Standard USN/RN practice. Others would wrap themselves in a blanket of a Typhus ("Gaol Fever") killed shipmate in their hammock that very night, unwashed until Thursday or Sunday or whenever the ship had it's Make and Mend day.

The Bacterial Theory of infection wasn't fully adopted until the mid-late 19th Century, and even then there were debates about the level of cleanliness and sanitation necessary.

Massasoit and Squanto USED the Pilgrims and their cannon and muskets to offset other Indian groups. Hell, Squanto used his access to the Pilgrims to try to make himself a Sachem or at least a Sachemmaker. It's a helluva interesting story, including the Pilgrims kicking themselves in the ass for having to settle so soon at Plymouth due to the onset of winter, when they could have settled at Boston with a far better harbor, more easily defensible, etc. (The Back Bay wasn't dredged yet, it was an tidal estruary)

When the Pilgrims first arrived, they found a ton of caches of corn and beans buried in abandoned villages due to a recent bout of smallpox, brought probably by European Fishermen in the months previous.

There was such a dearth of Indians, Massasoit and others were more than happy to sell large plots. Which contrary to propaganda, wasn't "$24". It was a good cart load of axes, pots, cauldrons, adzes, etc. worth far more - the S&H for that shit from Europe wasn't cheap and the Pilgrims did NOT have the skills (or smelters or mines) to make it domestically yet.

Lots of Indians did die from European diseases they had no resistance too, but on the other hand, vast numbers of Indians were also saved by the Spanish from the ritual sacrifice that would have been their fate had the Aztec empire continued.

So the tired and dishonest "white people bad" propaganda should always be countered with honesty and good will.

Something in their equivalent of the zeitgeist drove the Aztecs to sharply ramp-up the scale of their human sacrifices in the years just before Hernán Cortés came to their capital city, Tenochtitlán. Bernal Diaz, a foot-soldier in Cortés’s legion, later wrote:

“I remember that they had in a plaza, where there were some shrines, so many places of dead skulls, which could be counted, according to the concert as they were set, that when they appeared they would be more than one hundred thousand; and I say again about one hundred thousand. And in another part of the square were as many rows of bones without meat, bones of the dead, that could not be counted; and they had in many beams many heads hanging from one part to another. And keeping those bones and skulls were three priests, who, as we understood, were in charge of them. . . . “

Cortés had arrived in Mexico in April of 1519 with an expeditionary force of about 500 soldiers and by August of 1521, it was all over. He defeated the empire of a million Aztecs and commenced the systematic demolition of their monuments, including the horrifying great rack-of-skulls (tzompantli) where they displayed their thousands of trophies.

Aztec been around for 100s of years, just like europe using guillotine n buring witches, they executed their political opponents. Also they were only in Mexico area. North America had thousands of tribes. Just like europe there was infighting but no genocide.
